once they were old enough they started apparating to different cities on new years eve night. the main problem is that they're usually blitzed by the time they go about leaving, so they always fuck up spectacularly. the best of these was when they tried to get to vegas and ended up inside the great pyramid at giza. after that they decided to only apparate sober.

january 8th is specifically spent in the gryffindor common room because, as discussed previously, sirius refuses to do anything on january 8th besides listen to david bowie. remus doesn't really mind because he likes david bowie nearly as much as sirius, but he still puts on a fuss (this goes back to second year when remus vehemently refused to listen to david bowie because he assumed he wouldn't like it. sirius literally sat on his stomach until they got through the entirety of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. remus refuses to admit how much he liked it, but everyone knows)

this also requires remus shouting at sirius to hold still while he paints the lightning bolt on his face roughly 2 minutes after sirius jumps on his bed and wakes him up

they also do a proper christmas for each other the first week january because of school holidays. this habit crosses over even after they've left school, just because they've been doing it for so long and it seems natural

other than that remus isn't really one for cold so they mainly pass the time indoors, which is how they ended up finding 4 of the secret passages out of the castle (as well as figuring out most of the spellwork required for the map)

sirius loves the snow, though, so when they were hiding out at grimmauld place, remus would take him on walks around muggle london on snowy days
