Nox (@holyrunawaychild) — Some of the finest quality tattoo ink in Thedas. After having learned that Nox has done most of their own tattoos, Maeve thought this would be the perfect gift! ✍

Turvi (@davrinsleftpectoral) — Sun Cream for those long days in the Rivaini sun. ☀️ Formulated to have a nice cooling effect on the skin and prevent sand from sticking!

Lydia (@sorcerousadventurer) — A set of colored pencils for botanical sketching. While it's not quite possible to make them everlasting, Maeve has enchanted the lead to be pigmented and sturdy so that they can serve her well. 🖍️

Simonetta (@khomabrutalist) — A small paint palette that’s travel-friendly so that she can easily bring it along as she explores cities or goes bird-watching! 🎨 Maeve would love a short lesson or two if Simonetta wouldn't mind.

Amelia (@ridenowtoruin) — After learning that Amelia is considered the botanist of all botanists in Antiva, Maeve is a little awe-struck. She sees this lovely terrarium at the market and decides it would be the perfect thing to modify with an enchantment. 🪴 It now maintains a set soil moisture and humidity level!

Rukh (@curiouswisp) — This bundle of lavender is from Maeve's own garden, magically preserved to maintain its appearance and scent! The attached note relays her admiration for Rukhana's green thumb and says she'd love to pick their brain about cross-breeding certain species! 🪻

Cioba (@xkatchy) — A curated cheese board with all of Cioba's favorites from the local Trevisan markets. 🧀 (Maeve was honestly just planning on getting a generic cheese board but when she mentioned Cioba's name the vendor was like, "I can do you one better." 🤝)

Perrin (@crabs-with-sticks) — Treats for their three beloved pets Monti, Otto, and Lillibet. 💝 Maeve baked them herself and hopes all three enjoy the tasty snacks!!

My biggest struggle is letting perfection be the enemy of good and so my goal for these fanart frenzy sketches is to use no/minimal reference and to finish them in one sitting. In this case I referenced a screenshot of the kitchen for the fireplace details and a screenshot of the lovely Mara to remind myself which Vallaslin she has. I also did complete it in one sitting (~1.5hrs, most of which was futzing with the shadows lmao)

this beginning bit is some of the funniest shit i've ever read but you must simply go read the rest of the chapter because this is followed up by some of the most delicious smut i've ever read ⤵

“When I was in Rivain, I helped Taash find this Qunari weatherman– I know, don’t look at me like that,” she waves her hand in his direction as though trying to brush him away. “He was important to them. Anyway – he wanted to go back to the Qun because when the Antaam– stop scowling – when the Antaam broke away, he didn’t really have much of a say, you know?” Viago hums and she can tell he’s wondering where this is leading. She continues, using her free hand to slick back her wet hair as she pushes forward. “He was good at predicting the weather, and I was thinking– if I wasn’t a Crow, maybe I should have been a weather elf or something. Because I fucking told you this would happen!” This was their current predicament. Two days before, Ashara had pointed out the rapidly brewing storm clouds in the distance. Viago had brushed her concerns aside, certain that they would reach their known safehouse just beyond Salle, at least, before the weather took a turn for the worse. Ashara tastes the sweetness of vindication even as she slams herself into the back of the cart to shift it from the thick mud. It takes an hour, likely more, before the horses, Viago, and Ashara are able to dislodge the carriage and Ashara (and the horses) firmly refuse to continue on. Instead, they manage to find a rocky offshoot of the road where erosion has carved a rough outcropping into the hillside. It isn’t much – it barely shields them from the torrential downpour, but it is enough that Ashara can tether the horses somewhere dry. For herself and Viago though, the only option is to huddle within the small cabin of their cart. They stink of mud and horses and Ashara wrinkles her nose in displeasure as she strips off her soaked leathers and, recognising the fruitlessness of trying to clean or dry them, simply opens the cabin door and ties them to the roof instead. At least this way the rain might wash away the caked mud. “Half a day's ride back, there was a lovely little inn, you know,” she says mournfully, casting an exaggeratedly woeful look over her shoulder at Viago. “Very cozy. Fireplaces, stew, ale, beds. You would’ve…” She pauses and snorts. “You would have been horrified by the quality of the sheets, but it would have been warm, Vi. Warm!” ———— He wants to listen– truly, he does, because a very real part of him is frustrated at his own inability to listen to her advice when it is most necessary. But another part of him, the part that never tires of seeing his pretty girl half undressed in front of him, is simply overpowering any other coherent thought. Distantly, he recognises that she is still griping, even as he strips off his own leathers in turn. But he doesn’t miss the faint intake of breath from his lover, nor the way her eyes linger on his chest and forearms as he pulls himself back into the carriage. Her skin is still damp, her unruly, dark curls twisted back into a thick braid that she has pinned into a makeshift crown around her head, and her smalls are near see-through thanks to the rainwater. “Warm, hm?” His voice is rough, his eyes dark, and he swears he can smell her from his seat across from her. “You want me to warm you up, bella?”

"Aren't you worried it will bite you?" Maeve asks, skeptical as can be about the little red and black spotted beetle on Nona's finger.

Nona's smile is gentle and the little laugh she gives doesn't carry any venom. "Not at all. I suppose it could bite, if it wanted to, but only if it perceived me as a threat."

"How do you know that it doesn't?"

"Ah! Well, that's one of the most interesting things about them, actually."

Maeve can't help but return Nona's excited grin, finding herself—for the first time in her life—somehow excited to hear a bug fact.

"They do this thing called 'reflex bleeding' and it's exactly what it sounds like. When threatened, they exude drops of blood from their knee joints—"

Maeve blinks, screwing her face up in half wonder, half disbelief. "Their knee joints?"

"Their knee joints!" Nona echos, nodding animatedly. "It's quite bitter and has this awful smell that deters predators from eating them."

Slightly more reassured that the little creature won't be making any sudden movements, Maeve leans in for a closer look. "Fascinating... Why the knees, though?"

"There was actually just a new publication about that last year," Nona begins and Maeve settles back in her chair, ready to listen attentively. "They think it has to do with the anatomical structure of the leg…"
