In the midst of a buzz of activity at the World of Health IT (WoHIT) conference, being held last week in Barcelona, Spain, H. Stephen (Steve) Lieber, president and CEO of the Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), sat down to speak with Healthcare Informatics Editor-in-Chief Mark Hagland about the World of Health IT conference, commonalities in terms of challenges and opportunities among healthcare IT leaders worldwide, and what the future holds. He also spoke with Hagland about the new partnership announced during WoHIT, between HIMSS and the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), in which CHIME will be a partner with HIMSS on international conferences such as the World of Health IT conference.

BARCELONA, SPAIN - (HealthTech Wire / News) - HIMSS Europe has announced the launch of a dedicated Women in Health IT Community aimed at giving women a platform to share experiences and enable them to work together to close gender gaps.

According to an article published recently in Annals of Internal Medicine, for every hour physicians provide direct clinical face time to patients, nearly two additional hours are spent on EHR and desk work within the clinic per day. This is consistent with a 2014 survey which was conducted by the American Medical Association (AMA) and AmericanEHR Partners, in which 940 physicians answered an online questionnaire. Only 34% of respondents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their EHR.

Our conference and exhibition coming up in November in Barcelona is shaping up to be an absolute HIT.
