When the controversial thing makes you wanna write a poem, but first you have to do 270 hours of research.
Also, if you’re falling down your own research rabbit hole, may I recommend:
Yhara Zayd’s work is always amazing and thoughtful, and her video on Marilyn Monroe is no exception.
Another good video essay, this one on the cruelty of the movie “Blonde,” comes from ModernGurlz.
Lena Pepitone’s book “Marilyn Monroe Confidential” is at least somewhat fabricated, according to her nephew. She is alleged to have admitted it was ALL fabricated, but I can’t find a source on that.
The source for “Marilyn Monroe had 12 abortions” appears to be a former roommate of hers cited in Anthony Summers’ “Goddess,” a book that ....... takes some big swings. (I take issue with the article writer here saying Summers’ witnesses are unreliable because some are sex workers. The unreliability has 0% to do with profession and everything to do with Occam’s Razor.)
Heidi Seaborn writes that re-readings of Joyce Carol Oates’ “Blonde” after writing her own book of Marilyn Monroe-inspired poetry led her to ask: “Is the problem with Blonde... Blonde?”
Happy Monday, I’m in hell.
