this is SUCH a demeaning way to be grabbed. by the back of the neck like a misbehaving dog. and if you've ever been grabbed like this before u know the only response is hiking your shoulders up and trying to squirm away. the back of your neck is very vulnerable. and being grabbed there like this makes you feel vulnerable and helpless and humiliated .......
of all the places to grab her. arm, leg, shoulder, anything, he goes for the neck because it's the most damaging (with the physical potential of trauma to the neck or mentally with the feelings it evokes), and it's the hold that gives him the most power over her in this moment.
