Ted lent back in his chair, feeling his back click and sighing a little in satisfaction. He’d been working longer than he probably should ‘It’s important for your heart you get a good night’s sleep Ted’ bleh. But he was pretty sure he’d finally cracked the scanner he’d be putting into the Bug’s software. With any luck it might pick up anything that could be messing with people’s powers. Just because it hadn’t happened again didn’t mean NOVA (cause who else could be behind it) wouldn’t try it again at the drop of a hat.

He liked the safe houses they had dotted around though, this one was thankfully empty so he felt he could relax. He loved the Bug, but sometimes you needed a change of scenery. He’d just finished for the day when he heard someone else enter and looked over, eyes going wide as none other than Wonder Woman walked inside and looked at him, “U-uhh...” did he have a coffee stain on his top? “H-hi, uhh Wonderwoman, great to see you again!” It had to have been about a decade, no way she’d remember him.

While he truly did love a chaotic environment and all the joy it brought, he still held true to his love of learning and knowledge as well. Getting the position at the museum was hardly difficult, a few subtle illusions and he was miles ahead of the pack of other applicants. Now his mornings were taken up handling delicate old documents, reading and sorting them to his heart’s content. 

He’d also struck up a friendship with the curator, it was important to know those in power regardless of the environment, and it seemed they’d a mutual love of tea and good conversation. It was about that time now so he knocked before gently opening the door to her large office with a soft smile on his face, “Ms Prince.” he nodded, “I thought perhaps rose bloom tea this afternoon,” Jason’s voice was soft, charming, harmless, “Simply because its getting chilly outside we need not lose ourselves to Autumn quite yet.”

She’d been stood in the entry way of her therapy building for twenty minutes... Her apartment was a fifteen minute walk away (maybe twenty five seeing as she used one crutch now) but she could be home in five minutes with a taxi. Trouble was, and she had analysed her own mental state quite a bit in the last few minutes... she was frightened to go out and flag a car down. It was dark now and suddenly nothing seemed safe anymore. There was a fear rooted deep in her bones and she didn’t trust what hid in the dark.

Eventually she gave into her fear and called the person she hoped would judge her least... Diana. She called and asked the other if she’d mind walking her home, being vague about the details why since she wasn’t sure how to tell the other what happened. But as she saw Diana approach and enter the building her time to think up an excuse was gone and she looked at the other sadly. 

“How did this city end up pulling you in, too?” He gave her arm a friendly squeeze before pushing his hand into his pocket. He was still leaning on a stupid cane. He really wanted to stay in the manor until he was done with it but -- he was feeling couped up. He hadn’t expected to run into Diana, of all people, out here. In fact, he was surprised he hadn’t heard of her arrival from any of the old team. “Have you spoken with Ollie? Or seen him? Zee? Mera?”

Steve was getting better at cooking. Or, at least, he liked to think he was getting better at cooking. He was watching a lot of cooking shows, and he’d ended up cooking a ton during that little jaunt to the past he and Boost went on, so he’d gotten plenty of practice. But, the only real way to know if he’d improved was to get Diana’s opinion (because, really, who else’s opinion mattered?). 

So, after spending the morning cooking up a sweet & spicy (emphasis on spicy) mango chicken curry Steve packed it up along with some rice, fruit, and two dark chocolate brownies he had made for dessert. At the last moment he remembered drinks, rushing back to the kitchen to shove a couple into the lunch pail he had slung over his shoulder. 

Getting to the museum didn’t take that long thanks to the quick Uber, and he’d been by enough that the security guards waved him through with a smile, Steve grinning and asking about Marcus’ daughter’s big dance recital, turning around and walking backwards so he could give the other man double thumbs up in congratulations when he said it’d been a hit.

In her dressing room, Zatanna settled into her chair, snapping her fingers to conjure a bottle of wine in her hand. The sounds of applause from the stage had started to fade as they egressed out of the theater. A heavy sigh slipped past her lips. Looking at the cork, she removed the object with a wave of her hand, setting it aside and reaching for her glass. 

When she poured the contents, she thought back to Zach. The last they spoke, he told her he had something to share, but recanted, saying “it can wait.” Her lips twitched into a grimace. The sense of not knowing what he wanted to tell her left her baffled and perhaps a bit uneasy. Maybe he didn’t want to tell her and set her up on purpose. Maybe there was nothing to say. 

She pulled herself mid-thought when the wine almost reached the top of her glass. She immediately set the bottle aside. Her lips touched the brim of her aforementioned glass, taking a few sips to avoid spillage. Even after all this time, she could barely pull herself out of her trance. 

It was practically a parody of a good day, and Oliver couldn’t help but chuckle to himself, wondering how long it would’ve been in the old days before some supervillain or other had ruined an idyllic scene like this.

He used to carry his mask and a collapsible bow everywhere, always on edge and waiting for the next disaster to react to.  The Green Arrow rarely got the chance to just sir back and enjoy a day like this.

The only thing that was missing was good company, but that would be solved soon enough.  After all, Oliver wasn’t out here by chance.

Her message had been as cordial as ever, asking after him, hoping he was doing well, and then asking to meet.  He had a suspicion as to why, but hadn’t mentioned anything to Dinah... not yet.  

Raising his head at the approaching sound of footsteps, Oliie removed his sunglasses and grinned in his friend’s direction.

“Hey there Princess,” he called, raising a hand in greeting. “Got your message.  It’s good to see you.  I bought coffee and pastries... including some Bougatsa, which I’ve never had before but thought you might like.”

She was beauty, strength and elegance personified.  It was easy to understand why women and men worshipped her as an elemental force, hanging on her every word and action, hoping for a blessing.

But to him, she was just Diana.

“...And if you’re here about that other thing, my answer’s still no.”
