RIP to one of the biggest musical influences of my life: Wayne Shorter. I couldn’t decide which selection to perform to pay homage, so this is a tribute suite in 3 parts [‘Yes Or No’ / ‘Wildflower’ / ‘Speak No Evil’]. Anyone that knows me on a deeper level knows how much I salute Wayne (especially @jacobslocumjazz). I’m just blessed to have had the chance to see him perform some years back with Herbie, and to be a witness to his greatness in person. What a pleasure and honor it was to see my teachers, friends, and colleagues earlier today at Columbia. It’s so strange being an adult-adult around them, because no matter how far I’ve come, I’m always reminded where I used to be when around them. @cassyqtkeys is a phenomenal colleague and homette! Levinson helped me develop my composition and classical piano understanding unlike any other. Huydts was my way in the program, and my path to graduation 👨🏽‍🎓! Lo Verde pushed me to the limit with her advanced sight-singing curriculum, and @cerquajoe is the sole reason I’ve been working in the professional theater scene for over 20+ yrs now, all because he recruited me to play “The Wiz” in the hallway! I’m grateful for all the friends and other faculty I saw earlier, and plan on being around more often in the ColumbiaSphere in the near future 📚!
