⟣  ─  ˑ 🏆   ۫ the  scent  hits  him  like  a  siren ’ s  call — warm ,  buttery ,  and  irresistible .  it  wraps  around  him ,  tugging  him  toward  the  kitchen  before  he  even  realized  his  feet  were  moving .  dylan  stops  just  shy  of  the  doorway ,  leaning  casually  against  the  frame ,  though  there ' s nothing  casual  about  the  way  his  stomach  growls :  low  and  insistent ,  practically  begging  for  mercy .

" whatever  you ’ re  making , "  he  says ,  his  voice  smooth  but  quiet ,  " you ’ re  kind  of  killing  me  over  here . "  his  eyes  lingering  on  the  pan ,  the  steam  curling  up  like  it  was  trying  to  tease  him ,  and  he  takes  another  step  closer ,  close  enough  for  the  heat  to  brush  his  skin  and  the  smell  to  sink  even  deeper  into  his  bones .

" so ,  here ’ s  the  thing , "  his  tone  dropping  slightly ,  warm  and  edged  with  something  almost  playful .  " i can ’ t  cook  to  save  my  life ,  and  i ’ ve  been  trying  to  convince  myself  that  raiding  the  fridge  isn ’ t  the  worst  thing  i  could  do . but . . . "  he  gestures  vaguely  toward  it ,  lips  curving  into  a  faint ,  self - deprecating  smile ,  " something  tells  me  you  don ’ t  just  help  yourself  to other people ' s food around  here . "

he  lets  the  silence  stretch  just  a  little  before  leaning  against  the  counter ,  the  soft  scrape  of  his  palm  on  the  edge  drawing  attention  to  the  way  his  fingers  tapped  idly ,  like  he  was  waiting  for  something — or  someone .  " so  now  i ’ m  thinking , "  he  continues ,  voice  dipping  lower ,  " maybe  i  hang  out  here  a  little  longer  and  see  if  someone  takes  pity  on  the  starving  new guy  with  no  culinary  skills .  no  pressure ,  though . "  his  smile  sharpens .  “ but  i  do  tend  to  be  a very grateful dinner guest . "
