I explained them already kinda a lot in the last ask, BUT I will take this opportunity to mention how i even got to creating them since it’s kinda important methinks :]

so anyways,, the idea for them kind of literally came to me. in a dream lol. not like their designs or anything like but just… the raw feelings that made me think oh i could make CHARACTERS about this.

in the dream i was in a room and there was this dog sitting in front of me. coulda been a German Shepard or something but to be totally real the breed doesn’t matter at all lmao, what stuck out to me was that as i was watching this dog just sitting in front of me doing nothing i felt this deep sense of fear in my body. like that feeling when your fight or flight response is at the ready, anticipating something Bad is gonna happen. and i distinctly remember thinking to myself “this dog is dangerous,” despite the fact that it was showing zero signs of aggression and was just Sitting There. yet for some reason (which i still don’t totally get yet despite having thought about it almost constantly since that dream lol) i approached that dog, knelt down in front of it, and just gave it a hug. and it hugged me back. and then i woke up feeling like there was a 10 pound weight in my chest and had to just kinda lay there going “wtf was that” for a bit lmfao

Pawn and Good Dog I’d say are more like… two ways of approaching the same experience so to speak. Good Dog is kinda meant to embody the more primal experience; that is, literally embodying things commonly deemed “primal” and/or “dangerous” i.e. rage, fear, sexuality, obsession, things of that nature. In contrast, Pawn embodies what some might say is the total opposite of that; a rejection of the “primal” and the “dangerous” in favor of “purity” and “morality.”

That’s not to say whatsoever though that one of them is “good” and the other is “bad”

Good Dog (as the name kinda literally suggests haha) is a “good dog.” It’s not really “dangerous” and has no real intent to harm Pawn or anything else for that matter. In its primal nature it also possesses a deep sense of wonder, care, love, and empathy. Pawn on the other hand, is perpetually battling with itself; the parts that Good Dog in a way encapsulates. It dons an evil eye in an attempt to ward off “evil,” but “evil” is such a subjective and ambiguous thing in the world that these characters live in (< still figuring that out btw lol). Its hands are perpetually stained in blood, a literal manifestation of constant guilt despite having hurt nothing and no one.

Pawn simultaneously admires, yearns, and fears the authenticity and rawness that Good Dog embodies, Dog simultaneously admires and resents the “purity” and outward appearance that Pawn possesses.

as for the holding one’s head in one’s mouth image, i think it called to me w these two because of like. the level of trust one must have. to face something that they fear so deeply. literally stick ur head into its jaws and letting it hold you despite the knowledge that it could, if it wanted to, bite down and end you in an instant. and the level of control to not bite down even when it is putting itself into your mouth,,,,,
