there is, perhaps, a teensy-weensy possibility that clara’s panicking. she’s trying not to look like it, of course, but this helicopter is spiralling, there’s no pilot, and she doesn’t think there’s long before they crash into something of importance, down there. namely the ground. she thinks that she’s entitled to panic, thank you very much; she’s certainly holding on as tightly as she can and wondering if these things come with parachutes. or doctor-call buttons. clara’s resisting the urge to scream, but only because she wants to seem, to sutherland, who obviously isn’t her biggest fan ( offensive, honestly ), that she’s in control, here. that she knows what she’s doing.
she absolutely does not. but then, neither does the doctor, ever, and things work out okay for him.
❝ oh, thank god. ❞ clara laughs, here, just on this side of hysterical as she clutches onto the back of the copilot’s chair --- and yeah, okay, this is why she does this. the absolute thrill of being this close to death and running right out of its grasp again, because she’d put herself right back in this position tomorrow for this feeling bubbling through her right now, as sutherland lifts the nose of the helicopter before it touches the ground. she pats his shoulder, and she’s still laughing. ❝ knew there was a reason to keep you around. ❞
