Story:
Her mother perished alongside her brother during the harshest leaf-bare the Clans had witnessed in seasons. The lack of proper food proved too much for the little Sedgekit, and Poppypelt.. well, any food that was caught had to be given to someone, and if it was her or her kits? The answer was easy.
But while Sedgekit and Poppypelt perished, two other litters thrived with hardly a problem. Orchidkit couldn’t think of any difference between them, other than the fact that the other kits knew their fathers.
That couldn’t be it, could it? Did everyone think that not knowing who their father was somehow made Orchidkit and her brothers lesser, or Poppypelt less worthy because her mate didn’t bother sticking around? Did they let her family die?
She could never know for sure, but the suspicion never left. She drew into herself, preferring to do her own thing than to stick around the cats that let her family die or the kits that was apparently more important than her or Sedgekit.
She didn’t change much as an apprentice, other than, for what might have been the first time ever-- gaining a friend that wasn’t her sister. Â
Featherpaw was not like the others, as cliche as that sounded. He cared about Orchidpaw, unlike the warriors that were happy to let her family die. He took the time to hunt her favourite prey. Bringing food to her. Finally someone viewed her as more important than anyone else in the Clan.
It came to no-one’s surprise when the pair, now known as Orchidsmoke and Feathercloud, became mates. Their lovey-dovey eyes weren’t exactly hard to hide.
Their affection continued to blossom. It was leaf-fall when Orchidsmoke realized that she was carrying kits-- Feathercloud’s kits!Â
She wouldn’t be alone in the nursery either. Sheepfrost was already nursing kits.
It was a good morning. It was warm, hot even. The birds sang as if celebrating the new to-be kits. Then she felt the cold beside her. But it was still leaf-fall, closing in on leaf-bare. Maybe he got up in the middle of the night to hunt for her. She looked around the den, but didn’t see a mouse, nor a vole or bird.
She asked his name, saying it louder and louder and shaking him harder and harder, but he didn’t respond.Â
It was happening again.Â
The terrible deaths of those she loved, the trauma of knowing the Clan had failed her, both having took so long for her to get over.
It was happening again. And she would not let it.
Sneaking out of camp proved difficult in her heavily-round state, especially with three kits she had to shush every two steps. Starclan above, those kits were loud. She thought she would never get Tigerkit to stop screaming, and Flashkit’s crying only seemed to make Tigerkit more scared.Â
The worst was Pricklekit, who managed to pull on Orchidsmokes heart strings with her begging to be let go, wailing that they wouldn’t tell anyone. Orchidsmoke snapped her neck before she could change her mind.Â
Amazingly, the dawn patrol (who were unfortunate enough to discover the poor kits) thought that it had been a Starclan-cursed fox. So driven and angered by the past coming back to her, Orchidsmoke had almost forgotten about not getting caught. Or maybe it was ‘pregnancy brain’. Luckily, that was after she silently snuck out of camp to kill them. Her mind was still working then.
Sheepfrost’s mournful cries made Orchidsmoke shrink into her fur, and not just because it was so like her kits.
But the regret dissipated quickly when later that day, Orchidsmoke’s own kits were born: Wispkit, Cinderkit, and Stormkit.Â
Everything was perfect, even if Sheepfrost did push herself onto Orchidsmoke’s kits one too many times-- it was the least Orchid could allow her. The trio were nearing apprenticeship when Woodpetal announced her pregnancy and had Flutterkit and Thrushkit.Â
True, her kits were nearly apprentices, and true, leaf-bare was nearing its end. But no mother would risk it.
She had help this time, her kits, eager to please their mother, aiding in coaxing their younger cousins out of the camp. Why not take the chance to use the warrior moves she had taught them?
It was difficult to convince them to use their claws, particularly when it was over, and Stormkit began to cry over the bodies of Thrushkit and Flutterkit. Forgetting about the time-sensitive need to get away from their crime, Orchidsmoke held him close.Â
But Woodpetal had awoken in the middle of the night, instantly following the kits’ trail the second she saw that they weren’t with her. Seeing her sister, paws bloodied, around the bodies of her kits. It wasn’t hard to put two and two together, and harder less to take her exploding anger out on the littermate she had been so close with for seasons.
Even in the Dark Forest, Orchidsmoke wasn’t finished. Angered by the death she viewed as unjust, she visited her kits in their dreams and managed to convince them to avenge her, to kill Woodpetal. It wasn’t hard, they were young, not fully understanding right from wrong, and their previous murders certainly didn’t help their views.
They piled onto Woodpetal in the nursery. The noise attracted the attention of a poor-sighted warrior. Perhaps they would have lived if he had seen that, for whatever reason, Woodpetal’s attackers were kits. But, alas.
Starclan had been heavily divided. The kits were so close to joining the paradise, but kits or not, they were murderers, and close enough to apprentice age. Besides, what heavenly afterlife allows three young kits and a queen to be in the same territory as their killers?

--You’d think you should be worried about kits in hell, but also consider that Poppyhill, Ferndoe, Jackdawfoot, Batroot, Fennelbur, and even Blackdawn miss their own kits so much and would totally dote on the three.
--I thought of giving Feathercloud death by aneurysm! Let me know what you think
