Call for Abstracts, 1 Month until Deadline

The deadline to submit an abstract is only one month away! 

Submit your abstract before October 31, 2016. All abstract submissions must be completed online at www.wipce2017.com.

 WIPCE attracts highly regarded Indigenous education experts and scholars. Presentations at WIPCE are intended to inform, inspire and provoke creative discussion for continued success in Indigenous education.  

 In 2015, Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued its final report including 94 Calls to Action. The Truth and Reconciliation movement is international. Next year’s conference theme will be, “A Celebration of Resilience”. The role and impacts of indigenous education in truth and reconciliation around the world will be a key focus of the conference theme. Individuals submitting abstracts are requested to link their proposal to this focus, if applicable.

Registration 

Register before December 31st to receive the early bird registration rate! Registration is now open online at www.wipce2017.com. All presenters must submit individual registration forms and pay the registration fee. To receive a further discounted registration fee, all delegates who book within the sanctioned hotels must verify their hotel booking on the registration form.

Registration

Registration is now open online at www.wipce2017.com. All presenters and co-presenters must complete and submit separate registration forms and pay the registration fee. To receive a discounted registration fee, all delegates who book within the sanctioned hotels must verify their hotel booking on the registration form. Register before December 31, 2016 to receive further discounts on the registration fee.

Hotels

WIPCE 2017 co-hosts have negotiated exceptional guest room rates for conference delegates. We encourage all participants to book at one of the sanctioned hotels. A full listing of sanctioned hotels and booking codes are located on the WIPCE website under the “Venue” tab.

As part of your hotel fee, shuttle buses from the various hotels and convention centre is included in your hotel rate. Please note, even though shuttle buses are offered – all hotels are within walking distance to the convention centre either from street level or through the cities underground pathway.

Flights

To receive a discounted price on airfare using Air Canada, please enter the following code when booking your flight: N2K7GBQ1. This code will be good for the first 1000 people, and then we will have to register for another code.

We are delighted to share the recipients of the 2016 Leaders Circle Recognition Award, are our very own Rebecca Jamieson, President & CEO Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) and Tuesday Johnson-MacDonald, President of TAP Resources. Both women were honoured with the award for their extraordinary efforts in securing the winning bid for WIPCE 2017. This prestigious event attracts leading experts from around the world and is monumental in the field of Indigenous education. The bid to host WIPCE 2017 was spearheaded by Rebecca and Tuesday and will bring an estimated attendance of 4000 people from around the world. The event takes place July 24 - July 29, 2017 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. 

The Leaders Circle is an association of Canadian professionals who are experts in their respective fields. The basis of the association is to partner with top thinkers like Rebecca and Tuesday to showcase Toronto by bringing international meetings to the city. The World Indigenous Peoples Conference on Education 2017 is expected to have a tremendous economic impact on the city of Toronto with visitor expenditures projected to be over $8.5million.

This award adds to Rebecca's many achievements in the field of Aboriginal Post Secondary Education. Rebecca continues to be influential in fulfilling the vision of SNP to achieve international distinction for excellence in Indigenous education, Indigenous language revitalization and continuance of Indigenous knowledge.

Tuesday, manager of TAP Resources, also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience working with First Nation organizations as well as an extensive, well-established entrepreneurial background. Together Rebecca and Tuesday bring a plethora of knowledge and experience to deliver WIPCE 2017 and bring Toronto to the international conference stage.

WIPCE attracts highly regarded experts and scholars in Indigenous education engaging approximately 4000 Indigenous representatives from First Nations (Canada), Native Americans (USA), Aborigines (Australia), Maori (New Zealand), Ainu (Japan), Sami (Norway) and more. WIPCE is the largest and most diverse Indigenous education venue in the world. The conference continues to lead the discussion on contemporary movements in education that support Indigenous worldviews.

Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) in partnership with TAP Resources is pleased to announce their successful partnership bid to host the 2017 World Indigenous Peoples’ Conference on Education (WIPCE). Six Nations Polytechnic and TAP Resources will join forces with Tourism Toronto and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to welcome the world to Toronto in the continued celebration of Indigenous education. 

WIPCE is an International Conference that began 30 years ago. The tenth tri-annual conference held in O’ahu, Hawaii May 17 -24th, 2014 was hosted by the Hawaiian Education Association and welcomed over 3200 delegates from around the globe. WIPCE draws Indigenous representatives such as First Nations (Canada) , Native Americans (USA), Aborigines (Australia), Maori (New Zealand), Ainu (Japan), Sami (Norway) and more to share successes and strategies for culturally grounded Indigenous education. The conference attracts highly regarded Indigenous education experts and practitioners. As a result, WIPCE is the largest and most diverse Indigenous education venue in the world.
