So, I was watching Nukes's Top 5 on Youtube.. Number two on this list just reminded me of a WoF as humans fic where there's a scene where Qibli calls Winter a vampire.
Basically in the video a bunch of rich and important Russian people are at a concert when the lights black out and their eyes start to glow in the dark (like human eyes are not supposed to do). So, what if we put that into "human" WoF world and at least one of Winter's parents and their family was there and are actually vampires. I personally think it would be Tundra 'cause come on, she would totally fit the part. She's cold, conniving, obsessed with teeth, and would totally kill someone by sucking their blood out. Her and her family planned to get vampires back into power by her getting married into the most important family, having perfect heirs that would inherit the vampire gene (only the children of vampires can turn, it doesn't skip generations) and control the throne. Narwhal didn't know any of this (he's evil on his own) nor did anyone else in the royal family.
It could also give another "reason" to how the children were treated differently. Narwhal was prideful about how Hailstorm and Icicle were natural elites in the rankings, but was hateful towards Winter because he wasn't. Tundra saw potential in the other two (a chance that they would turn into vampires when they became of age). She was convinced that at least Icicle would be one ( I mean, she already acts like it) and Winter would not ( He was "dreadfully human" as she reported to her parents). Hailstorm didn't turn when he became of age and Icicle can't become queen ( but Tundra was still going to try to have her released eventually to at least try to have more heirs). Buuutt... hilariously it turns out that Winter is the only one who turns (and had NO heads up on it).
And of course I will put Qinter in there. Moonwatcher is (hypocritically) horrified (and horrible) when she finds out what he is now and spreads the word around the school (to "warn" people) which causes a bunch of idiots to try to have him expelled and captured ( the DoD have enough sense not to). Qibli and Kinkajou were the only ones with him when he started turning (it is very uncomfortable, including the front teeth falling out, fatigue, severe light and sound sensitivity, and a fever from hell), so they (Kinkajou knows more about herbs and is a good spirit lifter while Qibli keeps him company around the clock, especially when Kinkajou has to be elsewhere) take care of Winter the entire time even though they weren't sure what was happening. After it's finished and he's recovering (with a new craving) they still have their heads on their shoulders and knows that Winter wouldn't hurt anyone (at least not by his own will) so they stay with him, defending Winter from idiots calling him a monster (which ends up also being Moon) and trying to get him help. Kinkajou is Winter's adoptive sister in this, so with that along with Rainwings not really having all these scary stories about vampires, she's just like "Oh cool, my brother's a vampire! That's amazing! ". Turtle is also supportive with Kinkajou. Peril.. is supportive in her own way ("Oh, that's cool... have you killed anyone yet? How much blood was there? Oh, you haven't yet? Tell me if you do, that sounds like a blazing story!").
When Hailstorm meets Winter again and finds out what he has become, he is horrified but isn't going to attack or "monsterize" him like other people (nightwings and icewings both have horror stories about vampires, even about Darkstalker being one and that was another reason he was evil (although he wasn't actually a vamp)). Instead, Hailstorm confronts Tundra about it, which is when she finds out that Winter turned (HA!). She finally tells them about their heritage and the plan to take over the tribe. Then of course she feels the need to add that they were all failures and it's unfortunate that the "most pitiful child" was the one to inherit the "gift".
