To anyone who uses WinStitch! So I'm trying to make a pattern (my first real attempt). A friend has drawn a pic and to look at it its basically black, white and green. When I put it in WinStitch it obviously gives me loads of other shades which is fine BUT I want the Picture (which is white) to be black and the background (which is black) to be white. So I started the very long task of shading the bits I want black in pink, reading all the black bits that I want white and then going over the pink bits with black.... Then when I scroll out the picture entirely disappears.... I'm confused!!!
I'm curious, how do you make your own pattern and what's the process exactly? I've been thinking about doing some but don't know how to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)
Hi! :) I use MacStitch (WinStitch if you’re not on a Mac, it’s the same thing). It just opens up a blank chart (any size you want), and it has pretty much every single floss color AND brand you can think of! You can draw, type text (and choose fonts, sizes, etc), import photos, etc. You can create full and quarter stitches, backstitching, french knots, and there are some capabilities for quilting and things, too.
Once you create the pattern, you can very easily export it. There are a bunch of settings you can tweak, but you can have a preview page, split the pattern among multiple pages if it’s large, include a color key, all sorts of things. The other thing I love is, it gives you a “framed view” that puts the image in a frame and shows what it will look like once it’s stitched!
I LOVE this program! I paid for the Premium version, but their website details the differences between the versions so you can choose whatever works best for you. They also have a free demo, it has limited capabilities (you can only print their sample patterns), but you’ll be able to get a good idea of how the program works.
I think there are some free programs out there, but I’m not really sure what they are or how good they are. But I’ll tell you that after I bought this, for WEEKS I drove my husband crazy by saying, “Oh my God, I LOVE THIS! Look at what I can do!” I haven’t had even a moment of buyer’s remorse.
If you’re interested, I would download their demo and see what you think! And, if there is something that I didn’t answer, please let me know! I can’t say enough good things about this program :)
Do any of you guys use MacStitch?
Or WinStitch, if you don't use Apple, I figure the problem is the same. Okay, I went to open a pattern I made a while back and this window pops up saying that "the support files are not properly installed" and then asks me to re-enter my name, email, and serial number like when I first bought it roughly a year ago. Is this some kind of glitch? Do I have to repurchase it every year or something? What is going on? If you've had a similar problem, I'd appreciate knowing how you handled it. I don't have my serial number anymore, and don't know where I can get it from.
