I take it baking the sticks makes it safe for them to chew? I was thinking of doing the same for my birds; just going out into the woods and grabbing sticks.
It kills whatever might be living on the inside, or the outside. Snakes are going to just climb around the outsides, so I don’t know how safe it is for chewing birds. You have to be sure to scrub it, then soak it for a good while so that the wood absorbs the water to the core. Some soak from anywhere from 6-24 hours. After that, you slow bake it for an hour to four hours depending on how big the sticks are. I have some thick branches, so they’re going to be in the oven for a while.
