This is my gift for @wineandsnow I’m so sorry that you got the biggest procrastinator as your Secret Santa (aka me) but I hope you like it anyway! This is the first thing I’ve written for this fandom so I’m so sorry if it’s shit or if the characters are OOC! (I think I pulled it off though) Merry (late) Christmas and Happy New Year!
Summary: Roy has had trouble sleeping for the past few days, and Riza has had enough of it. Fluff at the end but angst if you really squint and look for it. (barely, not really)
Roy had rolled into the office hours early.
Riza knew this the minute she walked in and saw the man at his desk filling out paperwork that he hadn’t slept well. If the dark circles under his eyes didn’t say it enough, he almost never did his work without her not-so-friendly guidance to remind him.
That being said, lack of sleep was not good for Roy- and Riza knew it. Yet, these early mornings with sleepless nights kept happening, and the countless nights were beginning to affect Roy’s mood negatively.
She opened the door to his office, sighing before saying, “Did you sleep at all, Colonel?”
Dark eyes looked up at her, barely registering that she was in the room. “When did you get here, Lieutenant?”
“I’m the one who should be asking you.”
His voice was lull as he answered the question, “Awhile ago,” his eyes made contact with hers and he sighed, “I don’t really remember. I gave up on sleeping and decided to come here. Shouldn’t you be happy about me getting my work done?”
“I’d be happier if you actually got a good night sleep.”
For a moment, she received nothing but silence, and then, “Well it’s too late for that now.”
The entire rest of the day, Roy almost seemed zombie-like, giving only word worded replies to anyone who would talk to him. It quickly became a timer to the end of Riza’s patience. She got up, quickly putting her hands on his desk and staring at him. “Go home and sleep, Colonel. Please.”
Roy looked up at her, “I don't think you're the one that usually gives orders, Lieutenant,” He replied, “I’m fine. I have too many things to do to sleep right now anyways.”
The blond only insisted, “No, this isn't healthy at all and if you don't get sleep something bad could happen.” Her eyes were insistent, “I’ll finish your damn paperwork, what you should be concerned about is your health. How are you ever going to run this country if you are like this!?”
Seeing Riza get worked up over him was nice, and all he could do was chuckle slightly while saying, “Fine, fine, I’ll go home. But I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep.”
“You’ll sleep,” She replied without a thought, a smirk on her face at seeing she had won, “I’ll be sure of that.”
They arrived at the man’s house a bit later, much to Riza’s displeasure. Roy had stayed wordless, not being able to find the energy to argue with the blond about anything. Besides, he almost liked being fussed over if it wasn’t for everyone’s snickers in the office when they saw Riza dragging the older one away from the office and to the car. “Of course she’s the one he listens to,” Havoc laughed.
They walked through the door and closed it behind them. Before Roy could do anything, Riza’s words were “Straight to bed.”
“Oh, come on,” he mumbled, “Give me a chance to change.”
“Of course you can change, Colonel. I’m not your mom. I just don’t want you to kill yourself by being awake.” She walked away from him and into the kitchen. “I’ll make you something.”
Roy slipped out of the jacket of his uniform, hanging it up with his hat before going up to his room. He knew there was no use in arguing with the blond. He looked at himself in the mirror before coming to the conclusion-- he really did look like shit.
He changed and fell onto his bed, the softness of the blankets a nice welcome. Closing his eyes, he laid (lay? Writing is hard, homie) on the bed for longer than he knew before he heard the door open and the smell of food.
“Looks like you were tired,” he heard the Lieutenant's voice say. “You dummy.”
The blond bent down and placed a kiss on the other’s cheek. “You need to take better care of yourself.” She said to the man who she thought was sleeping.
Roy couldn’t contain his laughter, and Riza jumped up in surprise. “I’m sorry, but if you want me to sleep, that is the wrong thing to do. Now I feel wide awake!” The girl glared at him, “Though, more of that may motivate me.”
She glared once more before falling on the bed next to him and laughing, “Well if that's what it takes to make you sleep than I might just have to do that.”
They remained on the bed silently for who knows how long before they both fell asleep next to each other, the only noise in the room the sound of each other's breathing.
The work would have to be done some other time, Roy thought before finally falling asleep, this is much better.
