Chapter 3 is up! Our heroes had a tough time of it this chapter. It's pretty much solid awkwardness, but we do so love to torment the characters, don't we? It'll get better, though. There's absolutely nothing nirn-shattering in Saarthal, right?

Chapter 5 is live!
Chapter 2 is up!
There's a reason for the "in progress" part of "work in progress." Savvy readers may notice a change in the final published version versus the wip version of a certain scene, specifically pertaining to what happens if you hit the roadside centurions in Blackreach.
Vilkas wished he could fold up this moment and send it to himself one year ago. To see himself now, striding across the tundra with a mind fully his own and filled with the excitement of what was to come... At least he would know life would go on after all the struggle. His path to this point had been far from easy and he had lost a great deal on the way, but he could feel it now, what Kodlak said of him, “I have never been more certain that your life is only just beginning. Greatness still awaits you, my boy. Never doubt it. All is as it should be.” Now was a momentous time to be a Companion! Wuuthrad was reforged. Their curse had been cleansed. Even now, he followed his Harbinger to Saarthal!
Saarthal was Ysgramor’s home and he rebuilt it with the original 500 Companions. If it was to be opened up and excavated, it seemed only right that today’s Companions should have a look and ensure that the site was being treated with respect.
"We gather here today, under Mara's loving gaze, to bear witness to the union of two souls in eternal companionship."
STOP THE WEDDING! I HAVE A DRAGON SOUL!
Seriously, though. What would be the consequences for a mortal soul bound to a dragon soul? Sure the Septims did it, but (1) most of their marriages were for political reasons, not actual love, and (2) they weren't absorbing 50 dragon souls per year.
I didn't consider this until after the first chapter was posted, but Vilkas in Winds of Change has a soul whittled down to practically nothing. The spillover from all that power Torsa would absorb could actually be a good thing for him for the most part. That and Vilkas himself has quite a strong will. If anyone could survive being married to the Last Dragonborn, he could.

"Guide him on the path of honor until he meets the one for whom I have appointed him. To this one alone may he bind himself for no other soul in his lifetime has the strength to oppose the will of the Prince of Domination." --- Winds of Change, Chapter 1: Prologue
The story of Boziikkodstrun's captivity inspired this line. Nothing Molag Bal could do could break a dragon's will.
I did not at all intend for a cheesy soul-mate "prophesy" to happen, but marrying Vilkas after his soul was promised to Molag Bal would be a terrible idea for just about anyone but a dragonborn. It just worked out that way.
This also solved an issue one might have marrying LDB which will be discussed separately.
The fact that the Glenmoril covens seem able to maintain their populations without admitting men into their number is also an object of suspicion for those who live in their vicinities. There is an age-old libel that the Wyrd Sisters replenish themselves by stealing girl-children from neighboring farms, but such a practice has never been documented (except in the case of the notorious Fen Witches of Hjaalmarch—but they worship Molag Bal, and child-abduction is the least of their objectionable habits). My inquiries, which have been extensive, lead me to the conclusion that in most cases covens gain new members when unwanted girl-children are brought to them by distressed parents. (What happens to unwanted boy-children in the northern regions is probably a question best left unasked.) --- The Glenmoril Wyrd by Lady Cinnabar of Taneth
This is where the idea for the prologue came from. We know that that twins were rescued from necromancers. As worshipers of Molag Bal, the Fen Witches would surely have been necromancers. We do not encounter them in-game, so the Companions wiping them out would be reason for that.
I also wondered that necromancers would want with them in the first place. Their being identical twins would seemed to be a likely reason. Assuming that the witches were doing something Molagy to the twins, it would probably have some sort of lasting effect.
"I'm going to stay a while. Rest among these bones. This creature honored us with its life, and I will honor it with my respect."
This line from Vilkas during the dragon seekers quest is what inspired the connection he has in Winds of Change with Kynareth. It has a striking similarity to Kynareth's command.
Kynareth says: Use Nature's gifts wisely. Respect her power, and fear her fury.
It doesn't seem to be a conscious connection for Vilkas when he says the line, more an expression of his inner mindset that just so happens to align closely with Kynareth.
