Ja’far tries to make it clear to Aladdin and Alibaba that they’re not to blame for the way things ended and that he and surely Sinbad are proud of them for standing up to fight. What’s done is done and they should move on now that they have the chance to adventure without worry, they should make the most of it.

Ja’far stays in Sindria for a while to help rebuild. Aladdin, when recounting the story, places the blame on David for having taken over Sinbad’s mind so that no one will blame Sinbad an come to mistrust him. He wanted him to be remembered for the good he’d done and Ja’far was grateful. 

Once Sindria was settled, Ja’far returned to Sindria Company HQ in Parthevia to settle things there. Everything had been put on hold while the world focused on rebuilding and resettling. Upon his return he put the company back in motion, handing out responsibilities now that the company head was gone. Ja’far became a sort of regent CEO until a new one was chosen to be Sinbad’s successor ( I imagine Alibaba would be Sinbad’s choice ). And when the company is settled, Ja’far returns briefly to Sindria. The rest of the general spare some time to come and celebrate the anniversary of Sinbad’s ‘death’. 

It at that moment Ja’far decides to leave. He loves Sindria and the people there but everywhere he looks he sees Sinbad. And things are going just fine without him. Drakon and Saher are even expecting their first child and Drakon is a great king. He’s not needed there. He could go anywhere; Hinahoho offers to let him come to Immuchakk, the kids would love to have him around. Or he could go to Reim and help Masrur with his kids. All the generals love him and would gladly welcome him. And as much as Ja’far appreciates it, he just can’t do it. He thinks maybe he’ll find a place to wait for Sinbad to come back. He’ll be back once he’s had some time to come to terms with everything; what Sinbad did, what Ja’far could have done to help him. 

So he takes off, he finds a home outside a small village by the ocean, makes money growing herbs and fishing the way Sinbad taught him. The only thing he took with him was his Sindria uniform, his household vessel, and a few of Sinbad’s keepsakes, including his sword. And it’s nice, being on his own for a while. It’s peaceful. He misses everyone and Sindria holds a yearly festival to celebrate Sinbad’s memory and Ja’far goes back every year. And he writes to everyone to let them know that he’s alright. 

Every step, every breath was pure agony. And yet Sinbad did his best to stay upright, to keep a pleasant smile on his face until the doors to his private chambers closed with a faint click.

Shaky hands grasp a nearby glass of water, amber eyes briefly falling shut as his heartbeat pounded wildly in his ears. The cool liquid slid down his throat like silk, momentarily soothing the fire consuming him from the inside-out. He gasps, relief gone as quickly as it came.  

Sinbad knew pain. But that did not mean he relished every opportunity he spent with the dastardly dame.

Great. At least he will not be disturbed during his preparations.

First he goes to town searching for fabric and accessories, then to the luxuriant Palace garden, at last, with the complicity of a few servants –a charming smile and some sweet words were enough to convince them– he manages to gather the best Sindrian wine as well as Sinbad’s favourite treats. 

In the end, he has not seen his King all day.

Eventually night arrives, and the Djinn is waiting patiently in Sinbad’s room, nonchalantly settled against the comfy cushions of the man’s bed. Flowers are scattered on the floor, delicacies and wine are disposed on a tray on the royal bed. As for the djinn, he is clad in a light garnet tunic, slightly transparent but nothing too revealing, golden jewelry adorn his chest and wrists, a thin golden chain entwining in a small braid that keeps his hair in place and out of his face. To push the coquettery even further, he has even underlined his eyes with a subtle line of golden khol. Now he just hopes the other will not be too tired from his day, or even worse, collapsed on his desk until morning.

When finally the door creaks open, Focalor welcomes his king with a mischievous grin.

“Happy Valentine’s day my King~”

It was supposed to be a special day.

Sinbad woke up that morning with everything planned out in his head. He would finish work in the first hour then be free to frolic and spend the rest of his day with friends and lovers. But an emergency in the northern border had him walking from one busy meeting into another. He barely notices dawn turning to dusk, his bones aching and weary as he all but crawled his way back to his bedroom.

So much for his special day- -

“Focalor?”

The king stared in awe at the sight before him. The wine and delicacies were certainly wonderful but he just couldn’t look away from his djinn. The dim flicker of the bedside lamp kept Focalor half-hidden in the shadows, his golden jewelry catching light with every slow, sinuous movement. But the most striking part would be Focalor’s eyes, reflecting every bit of burning desire in the king’s gaze.

Sinbad swallowed, his throat suddenly feeling much too dry. He steps closer, careful not to speak too loudly for fear of breaking the anticipation hanging in the air.

There’s a split second where Ja’far contemplates shutting the door and walking away. Did they really think they could fool a trained assassin by playing dress up? Idiots...

Ja’far had been coming to collect whatever documents Sinbad had managed to finish going over. And when he opened the door to find an impeccably disguised Focalor, he was... less than pleased. But fine, if they want to play this game, Ja’far could play too. 

He smiled almost immediately, pleasant as always. 

so unromantic and dull...
