When the word 'island' comes to mind, I think of the warm sun, calm waters, and an abundance of trees. This past weekend, we celebrated our one year anniversary with a short getaway to Lummi Island. Part of the San Juan Islands, Lummi Island is home to The Willows Inn.

The restaurant prides itself in foraging & farming most of its produce. Everything is local & seasonal and needless to say, extremely fresh.

Picture perfect views from the restaurant. It's truly breathtaking. 

  Dinner is a prix fixe menu (mostly pescetarian) that begins with a series of snacks:

Smoked Oyster

Venison on Seed Toast

Crispy Crepe with Salmon Roe

Halibut Skin

Roasted Broccoli

Kale with Black Truffle and Rye

Cauliflower steamed in Whey

Grilled Shittake

It's then followed by five dinner courses:

Charred Kohlrabi with Red Currants and Coriander

Smoked Sockeye

Wild Seaweeds braised with Dungeness Crab and Brown Butter

Died Beets Glazed with Lingonberries and Bone Marrow

Spot Prawns with Summer Squash and Nasturtiums

Finally, two desserts:

Raspberries and Pineapple Weed

Blueberries with Woodruff and Malt

Throughout the dinner, the lightning of the restaurant changed as the sun began to set. It definitely became more intimate as the night progressed. This past year with her has been amazing. I don't know what's in store for us in the next year but one thing is for sure, it doesn't matter where I dine, as long as I get to dine with her.
