Most people were happy to pretend they didn’t know the ghost of the girl she’d been before abandonment issues seemed to rebirth her into something entirely different. She was not one of those people, though. It was impressive, the dedication to someone Parish considered just as dead as she pretended her mother was. That didn’t mean it was easy, this little pseudo reunion. Boot kicked at the asphalt under it for a moment before looking up, still avoiding eyes like an expert. “Yeah, I’d say it’s been awhile.” Acknowledging that much before nodding. “But trust me, there isn’t much to miss about back then.” A lie, but at least it was one she could pretend sounded good.
