BEFORE

when   she   was   younger ,   steph   adored   her   sister .      there   was   a   time ,   when   she   tried   her   hardest   to   be   like   olivia .      back   then   she   didn ‘ t   mind   getting   her   old ,   worn   out   clothes   &   toys   as   it   made   her   feel   more   connected   to   her .      she   actually   clung   to   olivia           trying   to   spend   as   much   time   as   possible   with   her   ( &   her   friends )   &   even   mimicking   her   behaviour .      it   wasn ‘ t   until   she   was   around   10 / 11 ,   that   steph   realized   her   parents   didn ‘ t   appreciate   her   as   her   own   person   &   that   she   didn ‘ t   have   a   circle   of   friends   &   acquaintances   at   her   age .

what   followed   was   a   time   of   struggle   &   solitary   as   she   tried   to   figure   out   who   she   was   without   her   sister   as   a   role   model .      steph   noticed   her   parents   favoring   olivia   most   times   while   her   own   troubles   were   left   unseen ,  unless   she   made   some   mistake   or   indecent .      realization   hit   her ,   that   she ‘ d   never   be   the   perfect   daugther ,   since   that   spot   was   already   taken .      that ‘ s   when   she   first   grew   feelings   of   envy   towards   olivia ,   even   though   they   weren ‘ t   very   distinctive   at   that   time .      yet   she   slowly   began   growing   into   the   exact  opposite   of   her   sister .

by   the   time   she   turned   14 ,   she   had   adjusted   to   the   schools   hierarchy .      due   to   her   familys   wealth ,   she   was   a   welcome   member   to   the   rich   girls   clique .      still ,   she   didn ‘ t   feel   like   she   belonged   to   them .      it   wasn ‘ t   hard   for   her   to   figure   out   the   fake   friendliness .      her   whole   circle   of   friends   was   a   big   game   of   charade   &   steph   accepted   it .      she   went   shopping   &   attended   parties   with   them .      she   joined   them   every   time ,   as   long   as   it   meant   she   could   spend   a   few   more   hours   away   from   home .      she   snuck   out   at   night   and   cut   school .      the   latter   soon   lead   to   her   partens   being   called   by   her   teachers ,   informing   them   about   their   daughters   bad   behaviour   and   of   course   mentioning   how   different   she   was   from   olivia .

two   years   in ,   she   ran   into   a   certain   group   of   teens   at   one   party .      they   went   to   the   same   school   as   she   but   were   those   kind   of   kids   your   parents   warned   you   about .      they   were   the   troublemakers ,   the   dangerous   ones .      that ‘ s   what   caught   stephs   attention .      the   by   now   16   year   old   was   bored   and   spending   time   with   them   promised   adventures   and   action ,   something   she   was   missing   in   her   life .

shortly   after   she   started   hanging   out   with   them ,   steph   dyed   her   hair   red .      she   started   drinking   more   often   &   smoked   pot   for   the   first   time .     by   then   she   already   didn ‘ t   care   much   about   her   familys   opinion ,   at   least   on   the   outside .      she   came   to   terms   with   being   the   outcast ,   the   family   disappointment ,   the   black   sheep .      but   even   though   her   life   had   never   been   more   colorful ,   she   never   felt   lonelier ,   which   came   to   an   new   extreme   when   she   realized   that ,   although   she   was   almost   alway   surrounded   by   others ,   there   was   no   one   who   actually   talked   about   their   feelings .      so   steph   did   the   same   &   kept   her   thoughts   to   herself .

during   the   next   years   she   got   better   at   manipulating   others   into   giving   her   what   she   wanted ,   yet   steph   was   never   satisfied .      she   wanted   more ,   unable   to   see   that   she   was   trying   to   fill   the   hole   inside  with   sweet   nothings .      since   she   was   born   into   a   material   world ,   she   believed   that   all   she   needed   could   either   be   bought   or   gained   through   attention   from   the   right   people .      she   neclegted   the   idea   that   being   close   to   someone   could   actually   give   her   the   salvation   she   was   so   eager   to   find .

DEFINING MOMENTS

FIRST   TIME

steph   was   15 .      after   spending   yet   another   night   out ,   she   decided   to   crash   at   one   of   her   older   friends ,   caleb .      he   was   the   typical   trust   fund   boy .      his   life   consisted   of   nothing   but   parties ,   travels   &   the   latest   brand - name   products .      he   was   a   known   player ,   yet   steph   had   never   gone   further   than   making   out   with   him .      his   parents   were   out   of   town   most   time ,   why   steph   usual   went   to   him ,   if   she   had   nowhere   else   to   sleep .   ( especially   since   her   other   friends   parents   were   a   little   more   uptight )      she   wasn ‘ t   in   love   with   him .      he   was   good - looking ,   sure ,   but   other   than   that   she   never   really   felt   attracted   to   him . when   they   went   to   his   place   that   night ,   steph   already   had   a   few   drinks ,   yet   she   wan ‘ t   totally   wasted .      they   did   the   same   as   usual   .   steph   browsed   the   kitchen   for   something   to   eat   while   caleb   prepared   drinks .      upon   other   terms ,   she ‘ d   probably   refused   but   since   she   had   yet   another   argument   with   her   parents ,   steph   didn ‘ t   mind   drinking   her   worries   away .      a   few   more   hours   passed ,   several   drinks   had   followed .      they   were   yet   again   making   out   and   caleb   kept   complimenting   her           giving   steph   the   attention   she   was   so   eager   to   get   from   literally   anyone .      that ‘ s   when   caleb   wanted    to   move   to   the   next   level ,   reminding   her   that   she   owed   him   for   all   the   times   he   provided   refuge   to   her .   eventually   she   gave   in ,   since   she   never   expected   her   first   time   to   be   perfect ,   romantic   or   with   someone   she   loved   or   who   loved   her .   ( especially   since   she   believed   no   one   would   ever   appreciate   her   the   way   she   deserved )      even   though   she   felt   terrible   after   that   night   and   actually   cut   all   ties   to   him ,   steph   realized   that   sex   was   just   another   way   to   get   what   she   wanted .   ( some   twisted   idea ,   that   got   stuck   in   her   mind   after   being   told   several   times ,   that   it   was   the   least   she   could   do   to   thank   him )
