ok here it is yâall, a req 4 everyoneâs fave indie rock band, probably
so, the band is called sour cherry if you canât tell, and theyâre loosely (loosely) based off arctic monkeys. they donât sound entirely like am: they sound mostly like their suck it and see era with a little bit of favourite worst nightmare sprinkled in. so far, sour cherry has released four studio albums and one ep; theyâre signed to some random indie label that really got a fucking deal when they signed sour cherry because no one knew what they were getting themselves into until just a few years ago.
sour cherry is from the u.k. originally, founded by lead singer george quincy delaney (or just george delaney, but heâll answer to either george, quincy, or delaney) and the guitarist when they were in year 11 (so roughly when they were 16 years old). now, fast forward twelve years later, and their next album tongue tied is one of the most anticipated albums of the summer, their latest single bad habits sold a shitload of copies and dominated the charts, and their instagram comments are filled with the emojis and fan wars of 15 year old girls everywhere.
their fanbase was pretty young when they exploded onto the scene with their last album, oxygen (stylized as O2) but that was about three or four years ago and as sour cherry has grown and matured, so has their fanbase, and theyâve become pretty well respected in the music industry, and are generally considered one of the great rock bands of our generation.
sour cherry are all really, really serious about their music, and for them the band is about expressing themselves as artists and not so much about the fame (though thatâs a plus). theyâre kind of pretentious but theyâre perfectionists - especially george - and thatâs what makes all of their music so satisfying to listen to. after they became really big with the debut of O2 they kind of decided to take a little hiatus so they could make their next album as great as possible, and also so they wouldnât let fame get to their heads.Â
theyâve been working for the past few years and the result is tongue tied, which drops at the beginning of august. itâs a little bit different from their usual sound; normally sour cherry sounds kind of like the suck it and see era of arctic monkeys, that kind of intoxicating, syrup-y slow indie rock, that just feels so satisfying  to listen to, where nothing feels out of place, but tongue tied is that and a little bit more. tongue tied is a little bit more gravel-y, a bit more gritty. itâs an indie rock album for when youâre trapped in that hot, thick, suffocating heat that just engulfs the end of the summer, the no manâs land, and you canât escape it (and no manâs land is actually one of the songs on the album). itâs a bit more conceptual but not necessarily a concept album, and theyâre all really, really, really proud of it, and so far itâs been meet with stellar reviews.Â
sour cherry was founded by best friends, george and the guitarist, when they were around sixteen, and they kind of merged with a band that had just broken up at their school, which is how they got the bassist and the drummer.Â
george does most of their songwriting, but theyâre incredibly collaborative and work really, really fucking well together, and they mesh well musically in a way thatâs hard for them to explain to most people. theyâre basically psychically linked, and itâs in part because of how close they are.
theyâve all grown incredibly close in the twelve years theyâve been together, and they treat each other just like family. theyâve known each other for practically their entire lives, and they have no secrets. theyâve had a lot of ups and downs and george can be a pretentious control freak asshole or someoneâs not being serious enough or someone at the last slice of pizza, et cetera et cetera, but theyâre best friends and theyâre not going anywhere.
all of the members should be 27-29, and in the ascendant or renowned usergroup.Â
a couple of things i would love:
i would love for either the bassist or the drummer to be female! i have some really specific ideas for the guitarist so i would really prefer he be male, but iâd love love love for the bassist or the drummer or both to be female
george is probably the least public person ever. like ever ever. heâs so bad at social media. iâd love for just one (or two) of the band members to run their twitter account, because theyâre all secretly old men who yell at the sky when their computer wonât turn on but they donât understand because they typed âONâ at least six times. kind of like how dan from bastille is THE twitter guy for bastille, you know? bonus points if their twitter handle is just like danâs (bastilledan), so itâs like sourcherrydan (or sourcherryputtheirnamehereithinkyougetit)Â
i would love for at least one of them to be a pretentious 60â˛s/70â˛s baby like george is. please
theyâre all really passionate and knowledgeable about music, and probably all have a solo project of their own, or are part of like a supergroup (think how alex turner is also in the last shadowpuppets, etc) because they literally canât ever stop producing or thinking about music. itâs all they know/doÂ
oh and i donât know if i mentioned this but theyâre all british. theyâre very very very british. most of them have at least one apartment in london and one in new york, and they all co-own a house (see: mansion) in los angeles that they bought after O2 released, where theyâre hoping to build a recording studio.Â
and lastly, they get high all the time and their weed dealer is practically the fifth cherry. the sixth is georgeâs sister, murray, who is good friends with the entire band, and has probably slept with any of their sisterâs at least once. she also kind of serves as their photographer whenever sheâs around, because murray is the most effortlessly cool person ever and photography is one of her many talents
if you want to make any of them, just hit me up, and like i said, i have a couple of specific ideas for the guitarist, but other than that, this is kind of open!Â
and finally heres a brief discography/history for them, because iâm a nerd who thought this out way too much
their first album was called first last because they thought they were being clever. the album art features francoise hardy because she is actually the love of georgeâs life.Â
next came venus, which was definitely not about a girl. this is the album that helped them get big in the u.k.
then came strawberry blonde, which was definitely not about the same girl, just in a different context. the album art features the girl that this album definitely was not about. this is the album that kind of put them on international charts, but they werenât that well known across the waters, not yet.
then came their last album, oxygen or O2, this is the album that really did it for them and put them at their current fame level, and cemented their place in the hearts of indie rock lovers everywhere.
and of course, dropping august 5th, tongue tied is set to be their fifth studio album.
they also have some shitty garage band quality music that came out before first last that you can find on the really dedicated tumblr fanpages, but itâs not that great and itâs not from any collective album or ep.
and finally last summer they released a 6 song ep, which they made out of pure boredom and after realizing there are no good contemporary rock songs to get high to. so they made some good rock songs to get high to. its called songs to get high to.
