Shifting, Zelda tugged the blankets tighter around her, and was surprised when they didn't move. With a sound between a yawn and a groan she turned to dislodge the covers from whatever was preventing their movement. However, when she came face to face with a sleeping hero, she shrieked and shot backwards. "Link?!"
Message me your reaction if you found me curled up against you in bed.
â It was not the slight movements of the princess, nor her insistent tugs on the warm furs that woke him, but rather the shriek that formed in her throat, made all the louder by the echoing of the stone walls. Linkâs eyes shot open, not a moment wasted in sitting up and reaching his hand backfire a sword, soft gasp leaving his lips. Scenes from old battles flashed before his eyes as vividly as he had seen them when they had occurred, demonic yells and the sound of misshapen throats chocking on their own blood resonating in his ears because there had been a scream and a scream meant monsters and no no no he had come here to get away from that he had come to her to be safe he thought he would be safeâ
His hand met air, sword and shield having been slung beside the bed before he had collapsed into its warmth. Blue eyes took in his surroundings - cold castle walls, adorned with paintings rather than entrails - until he realized where he was and leaned bak into the pillows, breath still heavy from the adrenaline rocketing through him. It took a few minutes to compose himself; each blink of his eyes brought another memory, another battle, to the forefront of his mind. When he could keep his breaths steady despite the burning of his dry throat, he answered, âYeah. Link. You scared me there. But, uh, I guess I scared you, too. Sorry âbout that, princess.â
((England or Canada?))
England!
...
B--But I like Canada, too! Â Just...
I've known England longer and stuff.
"I refuse."

"Ah, of course. I shouldnât have asked," Link replied with a sheepish laugh. "Just, ah - just a joke." It had been a stupid suggestion, anyway - he didnât know what had come over him. Play fetch with him. What had he been thinking?
Ah, he felt like an idiot. Obviously he hadnât been thinking.

"You werenât meant to get involved."

â â â That was what he was always told. He shouldnât have done this, didnât need to stick his nose into that. For some reason, everyone thought he was content with staying uninvolved and watching the kingdom be destroyed. Perhaps the princess had not wanted his help, but she would get it anyway. It wasnât as though he could fight against fate, against his own need to help others.
Because he was meant to get involved, in everything that required his help. He was the bearer of Courage, the one who had the bravery to sacrifice himself for the good of others. It had been his destiny from birth to do whatever it took to defeat the shadow running rampant âcross Hyrule.
He was the sacrifice.
                             And that was okay.
"Ah, princess, you and I both know thatâs not true," Link replied softly. "No point in denying it. Itâs alright, though. I donât mind, really." Because if not he, then who?
