The Music of Devil's Cairn
In 120AD, an entire Roman legion - Legio IX Hispana - disappeared during their invasion of Britain. How do you lose the entire ninth legion of the Roman army? Some think they were defeated somewhere around York and the erection of Hadrian's Wall is their legacy, a wall to mark the boarder of where Romans dare tread. Others believe, as they marched into Scotland, they faced their demise at the hands of the brutal Celts.
Pictish stones - stones carved with meaningful Celtic imagery - found in Aberdeen might lead some credence to this. In a location known as Devil's Cairn, there are depictions of ancient Scots and what appear to be Roman soldiers fighting off a demon of some kind. Could they have joined forces to fight back some sort of paranormal attacker? Or perhaps the Celts used some sort of ancient magic to raise these demons from Hell and defend their people. Whatever happened, it is said that if you listen closely, sometimes you can hear music from deep within the ancient Devil's Cairn.
And stranger still, one of the stones of Devil's Cairn shows a rectangular construct that experts believe to represent some sort of doorway, perhaps representing a gateway to the paranormal, but which others will tell you looks suspiciously like a 20th century police call box. What really happened to the 9th Roman Legion? We will perhaps never know.
