The training room smelled like sweat, steel, and ozone from the static charge that always clung to the walls whenever Thor trained there. Most days, Y/N loved that smell. It meant safety. It meant sheâd survive another mission to come home to him.
But Thor wasnât here today.
Today was Natasha.
And Natasha trained differentlyâquiet, predatory, analyzing the shape of Y/Nâs breathing before Y/N even knew she was winded. It wasnât romantic, and it wasnât friendly. It was⌠something else.
âAgain,â Natasha ordered.
Y/N barely had time to reset her stance before Natasha swept her leg out. Y/N dodged by inches, heart punching against her ribs.
âYouâre slow today,â Natasha said, circling. âDistracted.â
âIâm not distracted,â Y/N lied.
âYouâre dating a god. You think he canât feel when somethingâs off with you?â
Y/N swallowed hard. Natasha was far too good at reading people. It was part of the jobâbut with Natasha, everything always felt personal. And today, she was standing too close. Breathing too close.
âIâm fine,â Y/N repeated.
Natasha didnât look convinced.
She lunged first, taking Y/N down in one brutal, fluid movement. Y/N hit the mat with a grunt, breath knocked out. Natasha stayed hovering over her, one knee between Y/Nâs legs, the other pressed into the mat for leverage.
They froze.
Natashaâs hair fell forward, a curtain of red that brushed Y/Nâs cheek. Her breath hit Y/Nâs jaw.
Too close.
Way too close.
âTell me youâre not distracted,â Natasha whispered.
Y/N couldnât.
Natashaâs eyes flicked to her mouth.
And that was the first moment the tension brokeâinto something far more dangerous
Natasha pushed off of Y/N and stood up like nothing happened, but her jaw tightened. âAgain.â
Y/N got to her feet. She wasnât steady.
Natasha came at her harder.
This time Y/N blocked, countered, grabbed Natashaâs wrist, pulledâ
But Natasha reversed it instantly, slamming Y/N back against the wall. Her hand locked around Y/Nâs wrist, pinning it above her head. Her other hand pressed against Y/Nâs hip.
Y/N gaspedânot in pain.
And Natasha heard it.
Her eyes darkened in a way that had nothing to do with battle.
âCareful,â Natasha murmured. âYouâre making noises you shouldnât be making with me.â
Y/Nâs body betrayed her entirelyâleaning in, seeking heat that wasnât hers to seek.
Natashaâs breath hit her ear. âYou donât get to look at me like that when you go home to someone else.â
âI wasnâtââ Y/N began.
âYes, you were.â
Natasha backed up half an inch.
Half an inch was too much. Y/N grabbed her wrist, pulling her back in without thinking.
And that was it.
Natashaâs mouth crashed into hers.
The kiss wasnât soft. It wasnât hesitant. It wasnât careful. It was violent in its urgency, teeth, heat, adrenaline.
Natasha dragged Y/N backward until Y/N hit the mat again, Nat climbing over her, kissing like she needed air and Y/N was the only source. Y/N kissed backâhungry, reckless, in a way she never had with Thor.
Her hands found Natashaâs waist.
Natasha groaned, low and dangerous.
She shifted her weight, straddling Y/Nâs hips as their mouths moved like theyâd been waiting for this for years instead of seconds.
âNatââ Y/N whispered against her lips.
âDonât say my name like that,â Natasha breathed, kissing her harder. âNot unless you mean it.â
Y/N did. God, she did.
Natashaâs hand slid under Y/Nâs shirt, up her stomach, fingertips skating across skin that shouldnât have been hers to touch.
Y/N arched.
Natasha cursed under her breath.
Y/N gasped as if waking from a dream.
Natasha had already pulled backâbreathing hard, flushed, pupils blown wide with regret and desire tangled into one.
âWhat did we just do?â Y/N whispered.
Natasha didnât answer. She stood up, running both hands through her hair, pacing once like she was trying to outrun her own pulse.
âWe shouldnât have done that,â Natasha said under her breath.
Y/N pushed herself upright. The world was spinning. Her lips were swollen. Her body still hummed with a fire that wasnât Thorâs, had nothing to do with him.
âI didnât mean forââ Y/N began.
âYes, you did.â Natashaâs voice cracked, barely audible. âAnd so did I.â
That made it worse.
Y/Nâs chest tightened. âI love Thor.â
Natasha flinched. âYou say it. You donât feel it right now.â
âThatâs not fair.â
âNo,â Natasha said quietly. âItâs not. Nothing about this is fair.â
Silence pulsed between them.
Natasha turned away. âYou need to go before I make this worse.â
The problem wasâY/N didnât move.
Because walking away from Natasha felt like trying to walk off a cliff.
Thor found Y/N in their room later, sitting on the edge of the bed like someone whoâd forgotten how to breathe.
He immediately frowned. âY/N? Something troubles you.â
His voice was softâtoo soft. Closer to a worried lover than a god.
Y/Nâs throat closed.
Thor sat next to her, sliding one massive hand over hers. His warmth was familiar. Safe. Good.
And it made her stomach twist with guilt so hard she thought sheâd be sick.
He studied her face. Slowly. Carefully. Like he was reading pages she didnât want him to see.
âYouâre shaking,â he whispered.
âIâm fine.â
âHoney,â Thor said, voice dropping, âyou are a terrible liar.â
Y/N sucked in a sharp breath. Thor noticed everything. Every mood. Every shift in tone. Every heartbeat that wasnât steady.
âDid something happen in training?â he asked gently.
Yes.
Everything.
Too much.
âNo,â Y/N said too quickly.
Thor lifted her chin with two fingers, making her meet his eyes.
And that was the moment she broke.
Her vision blurred. Her pulse hammered. Her breathing went thin and fast, like her lungs were full of smoke.
Thorâs eyes widened with worry. âY/N⌠youâre afraid.â
She couldnât speak.
He pulled her into his chest instantly, arms wrapping around her like a fortress. Normally, that made her feel invincible.
Today, it made tears flood her eyes.
âTalk to me,â Thor whispered into her hair. âWhatever happenedâI can help you.â
God, he didnât know.
He had no idea the thing she needed help from⌠was herself.
Y/N tried going about her day like normal.
She wasnât normal
Every time she walked past Natasha in the hallway, her spine locked. Natasha wouldnât look at her. Wouldnât speak. Wouldnât breathe in her direction.
Which made everything worse.
The kiss had cracked something open between them and then slammed it shut again, trapping everything inside Y/N like heat in an airtight room.
At dinner, Thor sat beside Y/N, laughing with Steve about something. Y/N stared into her food, barely hearing anything.
Thor leaned into her ear. âYou havenât eaten.â
âNot hungry.â
Thor frowned. Hard.
âYouâre pale,â he murmured. âAnd your hands are cold.â
She shoved her hands under the table. âIâm fine, Thor.â
âYouâre lying again.â
Her throat tightened painfully.
Across the cafeteria, Natasha got up and left without touching her tray.
Thor followed Y/Nâs gaze.
His eyes narrowed. âDid something happen between you two?â
Y/Nâs pulse exploded.
âNo,â she said. Too fast. Too sharp.
Thorâs face darkened with something deeper than suspicion. Something he rarely felt.
Hurt.
Y/N didnât sleep that night.
She eventually left the room and found herself in the training room again, the mats still faintly smelling like the moment sheâd ruined her relationship and possibly her entire life.
A voice came from behind.
âYou shouldnât be here alone.â
Natasha.
Y/N swallowed hard. âI couldnât sleep.â
Natasha stepped closer, stopping a few feet away, jaw tense. âThor knows somethingâs wrong.â
âI know.â
âThis is going to hurt him.â
Y/Nâs voice cracked. âI know.â
Silence burned between them.
Natasha exhaled shakily. âI shouldnât have kissed you.â
Y/N blinked hard. âI kissed you back.â
âThat doesnât make it right.â
âI know.â
âAnd it doesnât make it wrong,â Natasha whispered, so quietly Y/N barely heard.
Y/N froze.
Natasha took another step toward her, then stopped againâlike she physically couldnât trust herself within armâs reach.
âYouâre with him,â Natasha said. âHeâs good. Heâs kind. He loves you more than anything.â
âI love him too.â
âBut you kissed me like you didnât,â Natasha whispered.
The truth didnât need to be said out loudâY/N had felt something she wasnât supposed to feel. Something sharp. Something dangerous. Something that had Natashaâs name written all over it.
And Natasha knew.
Natasha always knew.
The door behind them opened.
Thor stood there.
Still. Silent. Eyes burning not with rageâbut with heartbreak.
Y/Nâs blood turned to ice.
Thorâs gaze shifted between the two of them, taking in the distance, the tension, the invisible thread pulled too tight between them.
âTell me the truth,â Thor said, voice painfully steady.
Y/N couldnât breathe.
Thorâs jaw clenched. âDid she touch you?â
Natasha stepped forward instantly. âThorââ
âDid. She. Touch. You.â His voice was low enough to shake the floor.
Y/Nâs chest collapsed. Tears burned her eyes.
Thor stared at her like he was watching the world fall apart in slow motion.
âY/N,â he whispered, âplease donât lie to me again.â
Her lips parted.
She couldnât say it. Couldnât say yes. Couldnât say no.
The silence was worse than either answer.
Thorâs breath left him like heâd been stabbed.
His shoulders droppedânot with anger, but with grief so heavy it bent him.
Natasha took a step toward him. âThor, it was a mistakeââ
Thor didnât look at her. Not even once. His eyes never left Y/N.
âA mistake implies you didnât want it,â he said quietly. âDid you want her?â
Y/Nâs heart stopped beating.
She couldnât answer.
And her silence answered for her.
Thorâs face broke in a way she had never seenânot in battle, not in pain, not in loss.
Only love could hurt like that.
He nodded once, too controlled. Too calm. The kind of calm that comes right before a storm or right before someone shatters.
âI see,â he whispered.
