Prooflific
[ prooflific: a Whumpgender related to proof of life phone call tropes where a character, say the caretaker, receives a call from character b, say the Whumper, confirming that the abducted character, whumpee, is still alive.
It may feel both terrifying and extremely relieving, to hear the sound of someone one dearly cares about again after thinking they might be dead. It might also feel inherently dreadful to wait and hear the dial tone ring as you want for the phone to be answered.
This does not inherently need to be about phone calls and substitutes with a video, photo, cut extremety; limb, finger, ear, etc. And so on ways of giving proof of life.
