Honestly I don't think they would be and that says a lot coming from me. Because I love pets I have had many, and I love whouffle. But they are such a dangerous mix of zero attention span/only having yes for each other giving them an animal would not pan out well
though this did make my brain go all the way back to my rp days where me and another shipper gave them an alien kitten but even then the Tardis did most of the caring for it I believe

The only romantic companion I'd want the Doctor to potentially reunite with in death in some way is clearly Clara. Not River. Frankly, given how life forced the Doctor and River together and how River's life revolved around the Doctor, it's a good thing to imagine that death definitively separated them and that they found peace without each other, in my opinion. I really like Yaz (I hate that there was never a kiss between them), but the Doctor didn't have the same romantic depth with her as he did with Clara, and the same goes for the Doctor with Rogue. Especially since we suspect that Rogue lost someone he probably loved romantically and friendly before meeting the Doctor. Really, if the Doctor were to reunite with someone in death, it would be Clara for me. If Moffat can invent his fanfic where the Doctor reunites with River in death, I can write mine with Clara. Fuck you Moffat.
