This is my reshot self portrait.
Self-Portrait Research
This is a self-Portrait taken by Linda McCartney in 1995. The shot being out of focus helps to create a strong atmosphere in the image. The line of the plant in front of the mirror draws your eye across the picture and to McCartney’s face. With the picture being shot in black and white it adds to the strong sense of atmosphere in the image. The shot looks as though it has been lit using only a lamp, likely on the same desk/table as the mirror that the image is taken in. The shadows cast by the lamp create an almost ghoulish effect on the dark side of her face which also contributes to the strong sense of atmosphere in the picture. Shot on 35mm though I will be using digital for my self portrait. Almost half of this picture is empty space (the top half). Technically this picture is not very good and though I don’t think it was planned it creates quite a nice image.
This picture is a self-portrait taken by Linda McCartney in 1969. There is a pleasant atmosphere that is created by the abundance of warm colours: brown/ orange colours in the floor tiles, brown in the stripes in Paul’s t-shirt, and warm skin colours. There is a nice composition as a slight diagonal line is formed by the position of each persons head. This diagonal line draws your eye up and down the picture helping you to take it all in. Although we cant see Linda’s face in the shot as it is obscured by her camera we can see her husbands and her child’s who were likely both such important parts of her life that we still learn a lot about her by seeing them, their expressions, and body language. This picture was shot with 35mm however my self portrait will be taken with digital.

Initial Selection
These three shots are my initial favourites and the ones I am most likely to use. I feel like each image has individual strengths and weaknesses. The first one has nice light trails and my object is sharp. The second image has the best light trails I think and I quite like the pose. The third image has nice light trails also though I prefer the second image for this, however I really like the pose I am in in this image.
