30. reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster? -- squints @ the end of tatm. laughs weakly. then laughter devolves into weeping. aNYWAY. okay so the only disasters that would ever have an effect on her are those that concern the people she loves. ( canonically, the ponds - including the doctor; on this blog, that number’s grown to include a few crossover relationships but okay, canonically... ). her IMMEDIATE reaction is to make sure the other people involved are okay. in matters of family, river is nearly completely selfless. she’s generally been the one who’s had to hold everything together, so she feels it as a matter of personal responsibility to make sure that when things go to hell ( which things always inevitably do ), everyone makes it out alright. she doesn’t care about her own personal safety or her own well-being too much, honestly. so, i mean, in discussion of the end of tatm, when her father is ripped away by an angel and her mother is about to go, too, what does she do? she tells her mother to DO IT, knowing that it’s the only possible solution, no matter how much it hurts her & the doctor, and then STARES AT THE ANGEL so her mother and the doctor can say goodbye. and i’m. fine. this. is. fine.
33. concept of home and family? -- FAMILY is everything to river. it’s the thing that is manipulated her into murdering the doctor, it’s the thing that made her see her error, it’s the thing that pulls her time and again out of herself and the absolute lunacy of her own personal history into something bigger and greater and more real. her family ( amy, rory, the doctor ) is the only thing she’s loyal to, and nothing else. and home? like i mentioned in an earlier post, she doesn’t get too attached to physical places. her concept of home is where her family is. when she’s with them, she’d say ( probably to herself ) that she’s ‘at home’. yep, would burn the sky down for her family, and nothing else holds even the slightest bit of comparison.
