Happy Wednesday all, here’s some extra art today to put some Vision on your feed since the MCU can’t manage that much with their tiny advertising budget.

Here are some WIPs, sketches, and thumbnails from my fan project, and I’ll even share the synopsis too because I personally find knowing facts about a project may convince me and others to be excited.

This story takes place in a Marvel-verse that diverged from the MCU timeline officially after the events of WandaVision, though I’ve got additions to my personal timeline prior to that to build up some character moments later on. Vision, still unsure who he is, finds Wanda at the base of Mount Wundagore (the canon from the WandaVision end credits scene) and has been spending time with her while they both try to work out what happened. One night he returns to find her missing, sending him on a quest through the haunted forest and up to the the very citadel. Things around Wundagore are not what they seem, and it becomes clear Wanda’s disappearance has more nefarious origins. The Cult of CThon are working to resurrect their god and after Wanda returned the Darkhold to the region the walls of Cthon’s prison have grown thin, allowing his corruption to leak into the surrounding areas. Vision will face the denizens of Wundagore, the flora, fauna, and former citizens of this region to find his wife and himself along the way.

This story culminated from my own frustrations with not working in the industry I dreamed of, giving me a much needed outlet for creative exploration. It pulls from several things I love - Marvel lore, medieval history and Arthurian legend, Slavic folklore, and a blending of folk, liminal, and survival horror. It’s also a way for me to prove to *myself* that I can create something of this scale.

I don’t hate it but it would be nice to see the actual character in the show before they release a Funko.

Shared this one on Instagram yesterday. It looks like my prediction that we wouldn’t get any real update on Vision Quest was yet again correct. It drops in OCTOBER and we have 1 still (that looks AI generated to me unfortunately) and I guess the theme music (which really didn’t give me any Vision vibes, especially frustrating since White Vision had a really cool musical theme in WandaVision)

I get that Marvel are waiting on these shows but at least Wonderman and Ironheart and the others had SOME behind the scenes news and actual reveals before the trailer. WHAT IS MARVEL HIDING? What’s so secret we can’t even see an image of VISION from HIS show.

It has been 5 years since he was officially in the MCU. In that time they refused to confirm the rumor of the show until it was literally being filmed. And in the years since that we’ve gotten less than crumbs. Meanwhile I’ve been building a world, creating a story and monsters and a hero’s journey for my favorite character that I love. It’s a personal journey for me as an artist, and that’s got so much more weight than the content a big studio pushes out.

I am tired of encountering sketchy verification popups just to watch a robotic synth superhero series. The subscription fees for premium networks are simply getting out of hand.

Something fun today, one of the earliest paintings I did when I returned to creating art. I did a few sketches and a portrait attempts before this one but this painting I think is what kicked this whole ordeal off. It set the early tone, pulling from the mountains and lake we see at the end of WandaVision and hoping for a happy ending. Maybe this October we’ll find out more with Vision Quest, but seeing the direction things seem to be going I’ve given up expecting any “canon” happy ending for these characters in the MCU (or the comics frankly but that’s another discussion). I hope I’m wrong. Regardless, I promise I’ll always give them the happy ending they deserve (once they have gone through the darkness and horrors waiting in Wundagore, that is 😉)

This piece was never finished and likely won’t be beyond this as I’ve changed software, style, and my process several times in the years since. Looking back at it I think it’s good enough to call done and share at long last. I will likely redo it in the future though just to compare where I’ve come.
