Mica was in trouble. Her hiking trip had been plagued by disaster from the start. She had lost her map, her compass, her backpack, and her way. Now she was struggling through the woods and night was fast approaching.

As if that wasn’t enough, there was a pervasive feeling that she was being watched, although that could have just been nerves and paranoia gnawing at the back of her mind. She considered using her speed to simply run until she found a landmark, but the sunlight was rapidly fading, and she didn’t want to hit a tree at 120 kph.

A wolf’s howl broke through the silence of the woods, sending a shock of fear down Mica’s back. She had to find a safe place, and fast.

Working hard to keep the rising panic from overwhelming her, Mica tried desperately to quickly and quietly make her way through the ever-darkening forest. She ignored scratches from branches and thorns, and did what she could to avoid causing a ruckus.

Then suddenly, she smelled it-- something cooking. Mica never truly had to eat in her life, but cooking food meant some sort of sanctuary with people and a fire. She sniffed her way through a dense patch of wooded area to where the scent was the strongest.

There appeared to be nothing in the area, until Mica looked up and saw the silhouette of a treehouse against the rising moon. Could someone be living up there?

“Who are you, lass, and why are you here?”
