This may be a controversial take, idk, but I genuinely do not blame Eurydice Hadestown at ALLL for taking the deal from Hades. Imagine being a woman in pseudo kind of industrial revolution kind of Ancient Greece and specifically asking the guy who wants to marry you “hey, how are you going to put food on the table” and he says all this stuff about how the trees are going to bend their fruits to the ground and the birds are going to make your bed, and you believe him because you want to believe him and because he clearly means it with all his heart and clearly is gifted in a supernatural way but then, lo and behold, it’s fucking winter and where’s the fucking food? Like actually that would be pretty fucking frustrating. Like obviously it’s a reflection of Orpheus’s youth and naivety that he makes those promises to her and he didn’t intentionally mislead her or anything, and obviously he was right about the song, he just didn’t finish it soon enough, but it’s just very much reminding me of the Mitski song Because Dreaming Costs Money, My Dear. All things considered, Eurydice was very patient with him, and she did believe in him, but like the Fates point out there is a very stark reality in starvation. I’m not even really responding or arguing against anything I’ve seen I’m just sort of thinking about her.

We also know that Danny ‘is LITERALLY a ghost’ Fenton sucks at remembering his own intangibility while ALSO forgetting to look ahead of him.

All I’m saying is, Danny Fenton (or Phantom, if you’d really like) would absolutely SLAM into Batman on accident while running on roof tops and Bruce ‘Brooding Instinct’ Wayne doesn’t even think twice about letting the kid hide and scanning around for danger before there’s a record scratch of ‘wait who tf is this?’ kicks in.

#madness combat #madness combat oc #fd_art #oc: val #body horror cw #long story but essentially the short of it was.. to begin with i never got that compelling feeling when it came to writing/thinking about #val. pieces just never fell into place and it took me a long while to recognise some of those problems (largely cus my mind was more #focused on my other OCs) and there were quite a few. the emotional core i was aiming for just didn't work in the context of #madcom. maybe turning away from the urge or the need to kill COULD work but in val's original concept it just didn't really make sense #or if not that it was just not very inspiring. if val's story was of a smaller scale she maybe could've worked fine. but i do tend to aim #for some sort of greater narrative being said. of which i am still kind of cracking away at - but it feels more promising now #krinkels put it best in i think it was a CC response. there is no good and evil - the frame of reference for protag and antag is constantly #shifting. so the idea that val was trying to turn away from a darker nature just lacked any oomph or feel because like. who cares? the idea #of something 'demonic' becoming 'human' didn't feel like it worked in the framework of madcom. the same standards don't exist #in this world and thus i needed to change val. n her story and especially her demeanour is still being worked on and i haven't #decided entirely but i have a few points i think will stick: val was once a nexus scientist. favoured by phobos with an insatiable #drive to seek the unknown val was stationed to create the gore and mechanics and basis of what became gestalt. alone in a lab beneath #the science tower. pushing the limits of nexus' research and delving further into what could be described as an eldritch abyss #val essentially imploded from what she saw for just a moment. audie stepped in and said it would remake what she had lost if she #signed a contract to become a detective - someone who would go and solve anomalous dissonance problems #what exactly i'm trying to say here with her is currently being picked apart in my brain. i'm not sure yet. i'm not even really too sure #what kind of person she is. but i definitely know its meant to be in line with and a partial inversion of both doc and jeb #i think she should be a bit rude and abrasive but not cruel. proud and smart but poorly adjusted in a lot of ways. but the point #being that through her detective work she learns of her own heart and desires. where before she was merely a #another limb of the sprawling mass that was nexus. a pillar implanted with corroded ideas upon which to build a god #morally complex characters are harddd. this is definitely challenging my character writing capabilities LOL #anyway. very pleased with the lovecraftian detective-scientist angle/elements that i have gone for here. it fits more and #i think it just has more potential in general. i hope. there's a few more pieces i'll need to do up as references but this was already like #a lot of work and i haven't drawn in a fair while so i wanted to pace myself reasonably. and i am very happy with it

I have no idea if Noy is going to turn out to be the "red flame" mentioned in Flins' backstory or not, but since I'm obsessed with the fae, I'd love it if this ended up being the case, mostly because it raises a lot of immediate questions I'm having a ton of fun thinking about.

So, if Noy is an aarnivalkea, then:

He doesn't appear to be carrying a lantern, so is it possible that he's a "free roaming" flame? That he doesn't have a form of "habitation," just stays in a human shape most of the time or as a bare flame when he needs to?

Or, perhaps he has some other form of habitation, but it's just not as blatant or as visible as Flins' lantern? Can Genshin's will-o-wisps inhabit even small things? Could a flame fae fit itself into a pocket watch or a locket?

If Flins is the only aarnivalkea that chooses to live inside a lantern, that raises questions about his backstory--as I've speculated before, could the lantern be a sentimental item, something he chooses to live in not because he needs to live in a lantern, specifically, but because it has personal meaning to him?

And if Noy is the "red flame" that replaced the "azure flame," then what differed in their ideology that makes him opposed to Flins? What made the humans of the Snezhnayan regions suddenly "enshrine" red flames over blue flames? What philosophical point do they disagree on so badly that Flins felt like he needed to actually leave Snezhnaya over it?

Is the tundra just not big enough for two aarnivalkea at the same time?? 😂
