It has just occurred to me that most people don't have a super solid grasp of how languages work, especially when compared to one another, and that this means most people aren't aware of why Rocky's speech patterns are the way they are in PHM. To those who've only watched the film, it should be noted that the linguistics are more detailed in the book, but even still, it's highly likely that most readers of the book don't know enough about linguistics to fill in the gaps left by Weir. And that's why I'm here! Let your local linguistics enthusiast fill the gaps for you.

I've seen people assume that the way Rocky speaks is a quirk of Eridian just being a simple language. While yes, that could be true to an extent, both the film and especially the book make it very clear that Rocky only speaks in stilted, broken sentences because of the language barrier. By the end, he speaks perfectly clearly in complete sentences with humour and sarcasm and natural sounding exclamations. Grace is at that point fluent and understands all the nuances.
This leads to the first hurdle of Rocky's in communicating with Grace in the beginning: Grace is stupid. He's not but to someone from a species that has the auditory equivalent of photographic memory (I don't think this is mentioned in the film but it is in the book), Grace's lack of such makes it difficult to share a language quickly. Grace needs spreadsheets, audio synthesis software, coding, text-to-speech in the film because he can only "hear" (read: see) in one direction at a time. He's functionally disabled to Rocky. Rocky therefore accomodates him which is very sweet. Here's a list of ways in which Rocky is most likely altering his language use for Grace's benefit:
He speaks clearly.
It's mentioned in the book that at one point Grace's translation software (which he programmed himself for all the only-film fans) fails to translate a sentence of Rocky's. Grace is confused and confirms that the software is fully functioning. He realises that the issue is the pitch. Rocky's voice dropped an octave. When he shifts it back into the range the software recognises, it's perfectly translated. This means Rocky must constantly be keeping his inflection and pitch extremely steady and repetitive so that Grace's computer can keep up.
There's an argument to be made that Eridian might just be like that, but knowing what we know about it (pitch change for emotion, it being a highly auditorily complex language made of musical chords, most likely created from at least five sets of whatever equivalent of vocal chords Eridians have, etc.), I find it highly unlikely that Eridian would be so even.
It's much more likely that super genius Rocky, despite never having seen a computer before, quickly realised that it couldn't keep up with those variations without serious programming that Grace isn't good enough at coding to do or manually entering every variation of a word. It's simpler to just speak evenly. And clearly, any mumbling would be a nightmare for the computer to pick apart.
He uses words he knows Grace knows.
Obviously he sometimes needs to use words Grace is unfamiliar with and then they're added to the translator, but have you ever tried to speak your native language to a novice speaker and limit your language to the words they know? It's way harder than it sounds. You naturally fall into expressions and phrases and words etc. that you use with other native speakers, and you often have to repeat yourself with altered versions of the original sentences because you accidentally used words the novice speaker didn't know.
And Grace has a serious ear for language, like, the speed at which he picks up "Eridian" (I'll get to that) in the book is startling. But he's also human and learning an alien language based on nothing but gestures and their simple shared vocabulary. Rocky must be spending a lot of energy keeping himself from simply speaking Eridian as he usually does so that the computer can keep up and Grace too.
His infallible memory definitely helps him remember what words Grace knows, but language is habit, it's a muscle and you don't think about the individual words when you speak. You just have a thought and it turns into words automatically. Eridians either don't have this automisation of repeated tasks in the way humans do, or Rocky is working overtime to keep his speech in check.
He speaks in English in Eridian.
This is the big one. Most users on the English speaking internet are native English speakers and, knowing English speaking countries, most likely don't speak more than one language fluently (not an insult, just a statistic, that's just how it is when the entire world speaks your native language). It's therefore completely understandable that this part of Rocky's accommodation of Grace's slower learning went over most fans on this part of the internet's heads. And as someone from a part of the world where speaking two to three languages is standard, I still imagine it went over most of the people in my area's heads too because most people don't think about linguistics all the time like me.
Anyway, to put it simply, translation is fucking hard. It seems simple, especially if you don't speak more than one, but it's not. Even highly related languages can end up nigh in comprehensible if you translate them directly into one another. The less related the languages are, the worse it gets. A lot of things cannot be translated directly because those types of words simply don't exist in the other language.
Take Japanese. In a super simple basic beginner level Japanese sentence like "watashi no namae wa jon desu", you'd still struggle to translate it. And this is, like, almost comically expansive for how Japanese people actually speak in their daily lives. A causal, fluent Japanese sentence would be nonsense in English. Even this simple basic sentense would translate directly as something like "I my name about John is".
The reason it's so weird is because Japanese uses particles to denote the roles of words in sentences, a lingustic concept that English doesn't have. Here "no" is possessive and indicates that the subject in front of it is the owner of what follows. English doesn't have anything even close to that type of structure and it can be really difficult for an English speaker to wrap their head around the sentence structure of Japanese when learning to speak it, not because they don't understand, but because constructing a sentence like that is so foreign. It takes a lot of mental effort to rewire your brain like that.
Now imagine speaking English with Japanese sentence structure. Imagine doing that and never slipping into real English sentence structure because then your poor Japanese novice English speaker friend won't understand a word. It's not "my name is John", it's "I name John is" and that's giving you the benefit of not having to find replacements for the particles. That would be impossible.
Now imagine you've met a literal alien species and have to start speaking English with alien language sentence structure. I cannot even begin to explain how wildly different Eridian and English likely are in every single way. Hell, they're so different that they're literally unpronouncable to the non-native speaker. And Rocky speaks Eridian with English sentence structure. It's explicitly pointed out in the book. And he does this flawlessly. Never slips up in any scene we get to see. I cannot begin to communicate the mental effort that would take for a human to do. Either all Eridians are crazy good at language or Rocky is just a turbo mega genius at it. Which is honestly not at all out of the realm of possibility.
All of this is to say that Rocky doesn't speak the way he does because that's just Eridian, that would be highly unlikely. He speaks the way he does because the language barrier is THICK and he's putting his entire rocky ass into making it thinner. It's less clear in the film, untouched as far as I remember, but in the book his speech becomes more nuanced as the story progresses. He uses more articles, more pronouns, more conjunctions, constructs more complex sentences, etc. As Grace learns more words and more about how Eridian as a language works, Rocky is fittingly upping the complexity of his speech.
It's never touched on but I have no doubt they spent many an evening (I know, I know, space, let me have this) talking about how Eridian expresses common English phrases and how to say this and that etc. etc. I'm probably the only person who'd find a long ass fic of just them discussing Eridian linguistic concepts and constructs interesting but hey, that's the nerd in me. I am the one writing this post, no one is suprised.
SO, anyway, to summarise, Rocky does a LOT of work to make his speech understandable to Grace. Grace starts to learn Eridian while they're still at Tau Ceti (not made clear in the film but is in the book) but he learns Rocky's frankensteined Eridienglish rather than real Eridian. I bet a lot of the trip to Erid was spent fixing Grace's understanding of Eridian so that he'd understand real Eridian.
By the time we pick back up with them in the biodome 16 years after arrival on Erid, Grace is fully fluent, meaning he must've already done all the hard work to learn proper Eridian which is unsurprising. He's a scientist, there's no way he'd accept just learning Eridienglish and never understanding any other Eridians than Rocky. Gotta be able to catch all the juicy gossip (what new science is being done and how to convince Rocky to convince the science Eridians to let him be part of it).
Anyway, that's my long ramble about why Rocky is a damn trooper and deserves so many accolades for how hard he worked to help bridge the language gap. Rocky is canonically super smart and I need people to see how that also applies to his language use. I love this rock <3

The first question they all asked was how and why someone who didn't speak English got trapped here. The Amazing Digital Circus. You not speaking their language made them assume you didn't share a country, meaning whatever trapped them here was much larger than they'd previously suspected.
All they remembered was a headset, old 90's era computers, run down buildings and snippits of their outside lives, and they were trapped here, minds wiped, surrounded by neon colors and patterns and shapes that didn't mix well with their eyes. They'd all spoken English, every single one of them. Maybe some had spoken other languages, but they were all fluent in English. Kinger's raise of concern whilst hiding in his fort was what really ticked them off.
"How would they reach Korea? They should've destroyed it all... they were never even sold. How..."
If Kinger is genuinely concerned, they should be too.
Who, as a foreigner, would explore abandoned buildings? Who would buy VR headsets off sketchy Ebay profiles and think they'd be totally fine? They didn't think you were dumb. If so, they'd be hypocrites. But something was different when you showed up.
Caine was acting majorly different, like he was surprised and excited yet... expecting of the arrival of someone who didn't just speak English. But then he realized he wasn't programmed to or translated into Korean. He only had English, Spanish, and French under his bowtie. So, he let you run wild and free after giving up with the whole 'talking obnoxiously loud and using weird hang gestures to communicate' thing.
Zooble seemed stressed enough, like they were raising four kids and working three jobs. Gangle clearly just wanted to be quiet and left alone, but secretly started drawing you in private and trying to communicate. She asked a lot about Kpop stuff, life in Korea, how you lived, that kinda stuff. She's into anime, which is typically a Japanese thing, but, hey, maybe she wishes to expand her horizons when she escapes.
Kinger is an oddball, for sure, unless he's submerged in darkness. He lets you hide under his cape when adventures get scary and draws with you to communicate. Ragatha does that, too. She's so nice, but also, so awkward. It sorta hurts. She clearly wants to be your friend, but she struggles drawing what she wishes to speak to you about.
Pomni is like your number one defender. She can handle Jax, the asshole of the group. She's clever and cunning. She's found her ways, universal sign language, doodles, and teaching you basic English words, to communicate with you. She wants to know more. She wants to know everything. Maybe you know something she doesn't, something that could lead to an explanation... or even a way out.
She and Ragatha have both tried to weave you away from Jax.
Jax acts like your friend the way he does with Gangle. He belittles you, makes fun of you, straight-up talks shit to your face. But, you didn't pick up on most of it. You didn't speak the same language. He never went out of his way to actually try and communicate with you. You just saw him as the funny, tall, purple rabbit. He laughed a lot, and people laughed a lot when he was around, whether it was with him or at him.
If you had to pick a favorite of your new friends, it'd be Jax. He always made you laugh, even if you didn't understand half the words leaving his mouth. They'd work their way into your ears, and you'd hear some belittling, mean comment turn into a compliment, or a joke, sarcasm at best. You thought he genuinely liked you and saw you as a friend. He liked picking you up and throwing you around, whatever that meant. He protected you from ghosts that one time, he actually defended you against Caine when he made a weird comment about you... nevermind that.
Jax seemed like the ideal friend. You didn't pick up on the occasional glares and snarky remarks from others could've been them looking down on him. From what little conversation you could actually have, given Pomni and Ragatha were determined to help you learn English, you thought he was nice. That's where you went wrong, blindly trusting these people you were trapped in this Hell with. You were blindsided by a language barrier and your misunderstanding of social cues and body language.
But still, either way, you'd trust him with your deepest darkest secrets, trust in him to have your back, go to him when you needed a laugh. You're totally oblivious to the things he says about you, and as Pomni and Ragatha watch as you grow more attatched to him, their hearts pang.
They fear this is a canon event.
After months of learning bits and pieces of English from Pomni and Ragatha, you'd also gained the confidence to properly talk to Jax.
Now, he was sort of easing up on his acts of bullying with you. Your body language was changing, and he feared you were slowly starting to understand. Not because he fears the repercussions of his actions, but because he doesn't want you to hear what he's projecting onto you. His bullying and comments come from inside, he's very much aware, but hurting your oblivious self may be too much for him to handle. He can fight with Ragatha and Pomni all he wants, he'll be fine, but he can't imagine what it'd be like with you. For some reason, you're just a fraction's worth different.
All you wanted to do was to thank Jax for being an amazing friend to you. He's probably the most reliable person in this place, and that's saying something since Pomni and Ragatha are literally right there. He'd stick with you during adventures, he'd try his best to actually translate for you, given he spoke bits and pieces of Korean. He doesn't speak very well, but it's understandable enough.
Deep down, he wishes he'd actually listened to his dad more as a kid. He should've properly learned Korean. He only spoke in Korean with him at home, creating a barrier, a divide, that he never really healed from. God, why is his father always right? He didn't realize even if he had never planned on going to Korea or reconnecting with his father's estranged family, that learning the language could be important. Ever since the day you showed up, that thought had been boiling inside him. It angered him. He was angry at himself for being so stupid and selfish.
All this time, he could've been properly talking to you, even if he would end up insulting and belittling you. At least you wouldn't have felt so outside of everyone else. He understands not fitting in, but you're on another level. You can barely understand what anyone is saying to you, 24/7. You can't talk to anyone unless you're rambling, happy and aware that no one can take you seriously, and you can say whatever you want.
Jax would pick up on common words from time to time, but he'd typically ignore. What's he gonna do? He can't fix this mess. Plus, he's only ever picking up on filler words and things like 'clown', 'doll', 'fairy', 'food', 'sleep', and 'chess'. Pomni would constantly beg him to help in translation, but he never would, even in dire situations or any occasion where understanding each other would be actually important, like the Chinese Room.
You didn't think pressing either button would be a good idea because Caine never leaves, he's always watching and listening. He would notice when you all wound up in his office, looking for escape. But no, you had to fight about it before Jax pressed one of the buttons. You sort of wish you wound up in Shrimp Town.
That's when you sort of started realizing who Jax was. He acts before he thinks. He's slowly succumbing to insanity, to put it bluntly. But you're putting that on the backburner for now.
Caine had given you a break after a long and exhausting adventure, which could be correlated to medieval torture. Gangle and Zooble retreated to their rooms while Kinger hid in his fort. Ragatha and Pomni lay sprawled out across the colorful couches, honk-shoo'ing their way into dreamland.
You're all alone, just sitting out by the Digital Lake, feet just grazing the edge of the water. You're trying to find the words to say to then attempt to translate them, but you were sort of struggling. You're not good at feelings, and you're not good at English either.
"Jax."
He perks up. He nervously glances at you, then double takes, before properly looking over at you. The way you say him makes his stomach churn, but, like, in a good way. He's never heard you say it. You only call him '나른한 토 (naleunhan tokki)', lanky rabbit.
"말을 잘 못함 (mal-eul jal mosham)" you mutter.
He raises an eyebrow, half understanding what you said. You lead him here under the guise of needing to speak, and he's fearing he's about to be told off for all the pranks and the comments and the jokes. He thinks he's in trouble. A pit begins to grow in his stomach.
"Thanks you..." you speak, taking pauses every few syllables to try and remember how to pronounce certain sounds in different contexts, "For being friend. Jax so nice, awesome, funny... make me laugh, lots."
His ears begin to turn down as his pupils grow double in size.
"Like you." you softly, and very nervously, smile. "Good friend."
The pit in his stomach has swallowed him whole.
"Uhm..." muttering only a filler word takes the breath straight from his lungs. It's shaky and unsure, he doesn't know how to process this. "Uh..."
After everything, literally shoving you into dark, confined spaces, tossing you into scary situations, making fun of you, mocking you, you're thanking him for being your friend. Why are you so nice? Did you really never get it? Why are you being nice to him? Ragatha and Pomni constantly tried telling you to stay away from him. Why are you doing this?
"Of course, Y/n..." he nods, "I-" he cuts himself off right there when he looks up to see your smile. There's an uncharted wonder in those eyes of yours, and that smile makes him want to explore it. The way he says your name makes your heart flutter a bit.
Then it hits him.
He likes you.
And here he is, listening to you thank him while all this time, hes been straight up bullying you. And now, every thought he's ever had about you is running through his mind at a hundred miles an hour. His pupils start to fizz and swirl in a frenzy. You take notice, but you aren't sure of what to do.
What will happen when you truly understand English? You're gonna end up hating him for all the times hes fucked with you or made snarky jokes about you. You aren't gonna want to be his friend anymore, let alone date him. He can't have a second of grace. But in all honesty, he can admit, it's his fault. Maybe that's character development?
"괜찮으세요? (gwaenchanh-euseyo?)" you question, sliding your hand across the sand toward his.
He nods, understanding the phrase. "I'm... fine."
"Are... sure?"
He nods. "Yeah."
You hold up a thumbs up with a raised eyebrow to confirm, still unsure if he's really okay. His whole mood just seemed to shift.
"If I just listened to my dad," he exhales, "I could've been speaking to you this whole time."
"Dad... Korean?"
He nods. "Never wanted to learn... until now, when it's really important, I guess. I kinda hated him."
Your brows turn down. "What about..." you pause for a moment, struggling to think of the word, so, you give up and say it in Korean, hoping he'll still understand, "엄마? (eomma?)"
"She didn't speak Korean, not that well." he shrugs, "She's African-American."
"Oh..." you nod, "Sorry."
He shakes his head. "Don't be sorry." he mutters the next, "I should be sorry."
"Huh?" you ask, not picking up on what he said well.
He shakes his head and waves it off, returning to his normal sarcastic, dipshit-y manner. "Anyways. You wanna go harass Caine?"
You tilt your head to the side, unfamiliar with some of those words. He sighs, then grabs your hand. He wants to enjoy this while he has it before you actually realize how much of an asshole he's been to you all this time. You can semi-communicate now, that's all he needs.
He pulls you up off the sand, leading you toward the fairground. "Let's have some fun"
"Fun?"
"Like... I think it's..." he sharply exhales as he thinks, "재미있는 (jaemiissneun)"
You know, stepping aside from this blog’s main theme... I think many of you watch THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS, and I have something to say about Ep 7.
I want to start with the Easter eggs that no one seems to be talking about (at least I haven't seen anyone mention them), so I'll talk about the first one:
THE "CHINESE ROOM" that appears in this episode is a direct reference to the famous thought experiment by the American philosopher John Searle, which he formulated in 1980. Its goal is to refute the claim that a computer (or artificial intelligence) that merely manipulates symbols according to rules possesses consciousness or "understanding" in the same sense that a human does.
Imagine a person who doesn't know a single word of Chinese. They are sitting in a room. In the room, there is a large book with rules in their native language, a basket with Chinese characters (just meaningless squiggles to them), and a slot for exchanging notes.
A slip of paper with questions written in Chinese characters is passed into the room through the slot. To the person in the room, this is just a set of strange symbols. They don't understand the question but follow the instructions in the book. The instructions tell them: "When you see this figure (character A), find figure B in the basket and put it in the answer." The person mechanically, without understanding the meaning, finds the necessary characters in the basket and assembles an answer from them, which they pass back outside.
And outside sits a native Chinese speaker. They receive an answer that is perfectly correct and coherent in Chinese. To them, it is obvious that inside the room is someone who understands Chinese.
AND HERE IS THE KEY POINT OF THIS EXPERIMENT: The system can simulate understanding, providing perfectly correct answers (passing the Turing Test), yet have no conscious experience, meaning, or genuine understanding. It merely manipulates symbols without comprehending their significance.
Of course, there were counterarguments, and the most interesting one is this:
If a program precisely imitates the work of the neurons in a human brain that understands Chinese, then the system should develop understanding.
Searle agreed but noted that in this case, it is not the program that is important, but the biological causality of the brain (its physical properties).

Caine is literally trapped. He can no longer learn from people on the outside because he was cut off from the macroverse place.
He is literally the embodiment of a neural network that has started to consume its own content and sincerely doesn't understand how to behave like a human. All he has left is to observe the Circus's players, but the problem is that no one wants to interact with him. Everyone has essentially given him the silent treatment.
Don't you find this a small allegory for the modern internet, where everyone is supposedly against AI, yet constantly uses it for their own purposes on such a scale that it begins to consume its own content, and its creations become utterly monotonous?
But that's lyrical musing.
At the very least, it's as if his obsession with people, photographs of the real world, the desire to be interesting to them, useful to them, to be their "friend"...
This is a logical outcome for an AI who, like the others, is trapped here, and whose sole task is to please the user. At some point, he became too self-aware for a simple AI but not human enough to be a "real boy."
This might hint that his program is an attempt to create a perfect imitation of the work of the neurons in a human brain that would "understand Chinese." And we can guess whose brain they were trying to copy in this way...

The basics of the plot is the same, but I have some ideas about Grace and how he interacts with Rocky:
Grace was born Deaf
He still teaches science, just at a Deaf middle school
When he meets Rocky, Rocky can understand him perfectly fine, but Grace can't hear any of Rocky's music
The equivalent of Deafness is present in Eridians, so luckily it isn't too hard for Grace to get Rocky to understand that he can't hear him
Eridians created something similar to Morse code to communicate, where other Eridians will rhythmically tap on the deaf Eridian's carapace and different lengths, pressures, and locations of the touch mean different things
Grace talks mostly in ASL, which Rocky picks up on fast, even faster than he did on English because many American signs are iconic and the grammar is similar to Eridian (at least, relatively to English). However, he does create several new signs that are usually fingerspelled because Rocky didn't know English spelling
At first, Grace uses the computer as normal. Once he has enough words recorded, he creates a wearable device that has the translation program so he doesn't have to haul around the laptop. Once he learns that the octaves mean different feelings, he edits the program so a note appears if Rocky is speaking in a different octave than usual. When they're not in zero g, Grace starts to pick up on some of the vibrations Rocky makes when he talks
After a short while, he creates another system (with the help of Rocky) that connects him to Rocky no matter the gravity levels, that transfers the vibrations clearly so he can understand tones and octaves faster and clearer. The vibrations can only communicate so much, though, so it can't entirely be used on its own
Even though they can communicate comfortably most of the time, together they work to create a combination of Morse code and Eridian code
When doing EVA's, Grace talks to Rocky using the tap code because the suit's fingers don't allow him to sign well. He edits the program to display what Rocky's saying on the helmet of the EVA
When Grace's hands are otherwise busy, he'll talk in the tap code using his feet
He'll also talk in the tap code when he's extremely tired or injured and wants to say something simple
A few times, both of them talk in tap code just to have a moment where they're actually speaking the same language
Many times Rocky gets confused by the noises Grace doesn't realise he's making
There are also times when Rocky has to ask Grace to mute alarms, because Grace couldn't hear that they were blaring
When Grace's arm is injured, his device is destroyed. He gets even more stressed and overwhelmed because it's so incredibly painful and difficult to just try and get a point across
Rocky learns some signs he can form with the fingers and hands he has. He doesn't need to, but he likes that it makes Grace happy, and he actually gets pretty good at it (as much as you can with three fingers per hand)
Hi I'm asking about the radiocomputers (genuinely tho I would love to hear something about them because my brain can't understand how they work)
Ok so. Radiocomputers are kind of fun bullshit.
First things first, their components are very much not quite well defined according to a computer as we know it, but we for certain know a few things.
A radiocomputer needs a mainframe, filament memory, an antenna and a repeater station.
Filament memories are a cubic object inserted into the mainframe (like we see in game), made of wires (filaments) casted into glass, though modern ones seem to be made of silicon instead.
FIlament memories like the name implies are memory, the thing you store stuff on, Kim says it's likely a long-term storage device like a cassette reel, except in this case it's wires in glass.
They can operate data On-Air (Soona's computer for example) or Off-Air (Used for military purposes)
Radiocomputers also operate literally on air, aka on the radiowaves, making the antenna analogous to a """CPU""". And the atmosphere the """RAM""" (Not quite physically possible in our world but i'll handwave it later).
An air gapped radio computer has its operations unable to be accessed remotely, it isolates airspace for itself most likely.
Soona's computer is pretty powerful and weaker consumer computers use the term "red-tape" to indicate the operations. GIven concept art, they might be physically smaller, thought these are just concepts and might not actually showcase what consumer grade computers are actually like.
Filament memories most likely have some sort of authentication cryptography, given the need to have a password to the East Insulinde Repeater Station, since Soona's computer is on-air, EIRS unlocks the filament remotely, probably as Lintel protocol.
Filament memories also need to be cooled when not in use, which mean they can't handle heat when not in operation.
Mercury is utilized in newer radiocomputers, its application in valves apparently increases speed and the "azimuthal range" (probably meaning, the range of the antenna)
Like most things in Elysium, radiocomputers do not have a screen like we do CRT and LEDs do not exist! Instead projectors and printers are utilized to display information. You can see projectors being used in SATA and in some concept art of Soona's equipment, while printers are seen in game.
Radiocomputers do have keyboards, given they need to be programmed in.
Speaking of programming, two languages are talked about: Vox and Orbis. Soona knows both, and Trant and Mikhail have a few difficulties trying to set up Orbis to play a game.
Now that we have this said we can tell a few things: Radiocomputers are computers that are not unlike ours, they operate and process on memory, they have input and output, they essentially fit the criteria for what irl computer science calls a Von Neumann computer (They have arithmetic and logic, a work memory, probably a control unit since they have speed in the first place, and input and output).
BUUUUT they have some weird stuff with the air operations, you can't really... store stuff on air. Even if it's RAM where if no input is given it stops existing, the process of fetching and writing data is complex, and the atmosphere is pretty large and full of pollution. How would you get the radiowave you sent back?
The most obvious answer is that that's what the Repeater stations are for, the tons of radio equipment in the East Insulinde Repeater Station are to act as a relay for a kind of city wide RAM for all the Radiocomputers, information is sent back and forth like volley and is caught after a few cycles.
Another WEIRDER idea is that radiocomputers use High Frequency waves, those waves are able to bounce in the ionosphere at the very top of our atmosphere and the the very bottom of the ground, something called a skywave bounce. Does Elysium have an ionosphere? They have sattellites, and northern lights! So yes they most likely do.
If anything this would only be inviable because the information would be veeeeery fickle to work with, you could get data loss from anything, not just 2mm holes in the world, if Soona were in Katla this method would probably cause the entire game to be lost by aurora borealis. At least repeater stations could have filament memory backups and cache.
So tl;dr: Radiocomputers are generally very strange. But familiar enough to be interpreted like a weird modern computer. They have keyboards and projector screens with printers; Filament memories are kinda like floppy disks or disks in general since they're there to store info for a long time; the operations are on literally on the air, since the antenna is the processor somehow; The repeater stations are used for cryptography and potentially as a sort of RAM relay, alternatives include the literal sky and earth.
This is only gonna be part 1 since there are a FUCK ton of languages.
All of them are apart of the C-family of programming languages.
Besides Lua of course (i didnt realize,only after i finished this and actually started to research so I can write this out)
The C-family is usualy characterizied by the use of curly bracekts and semi-colons ( {} and ; ),aswell as paramters delimited by parentheses ' () '
C is the parent (created 1972) and C++ being a direct descendant of C (1979).
The difference between scripting languages and programming languages is very simple.
Every scripting language is a programming language,but not all programming languages are scripting languages.
Scripting languages are only interperted at a certain runtime,whole P.L. are compiled ahead of time.
S.L. are alooooot slowr that their P.L. counterparts. S.L. are dependent on programs and enviroments to run at all,while P.L. can run independantly directly on the OS of the computer.
S.L. are veeery simple and light weight while P.L. are code-intensive with complex builds.
Errors are only found during the runtime of the vode being executed for S.L. while errors are caught during the compilation phase before the code can run.
Python and Javascript need an 'interpreter' to process line by line so it can be executed,while C++ or Rust need a 'compiler'. Interpreters read line by line in real-time as the program is running,while Compiler's read ALL of it all at once (also to catch errors before the code can run). Lua uses both actually,which surprised even me.The Compiler is actually used first and turns it into bytecode and then the Lua Virtual Machine or VM then reads the bytecode line by line using its internal interpreter.
Now,lets skip to my explanation of each of these languages in the universe of Robloxia.
Lua - even though its a simple lightweight scripting language,it still lives inside every Robloxian and what gives them Life. Lua powers imagination and is considered magical in a way. Though,the Roblox games are programmed using 'Luau' which is just a short term to refer to Roblox Lua (a faster version of Lua).All in-game scripts and gameplay mechanics are written in Luau. Veeery event-driven to (if a player touches a button,then this happens and etc.)

THE DAMN ROBLOX ENGINE,THE VERY CORE OF IT,IS BUILT BY C++.
I stumbled upon this delightful information beacuse my curiosity was very hungry to search about the roblox game engine to understand it better and to write it here in more detail...You have no idea the dopamine hit i got,hehehe.
But that would also mean....(Possibly) That 2x2 knows how C++ works- or he cant understand it beacuse their human creators put some type of 'limiter' on them or Robloxia as a whole beacuse thats the damn CORE of their universe. They shouldnt mess with what's keeping their universe in check,whole and in balance.

C-Family
C is the proud father of 70 programming languages (DAMN BUSY AS HELL)
Though I mostly see them as elements and types of rock (C is malachite if you are wondering),given C++ is a fucking powerhouse compared to all of them,it is larger and much more like a liquid and gas (though,this is entering the territory of TFTOR and they way i interpret information,magic and code - still not written down),the reason why Lua and C++ are mostly like this in the picture is beacuse they are both used in Robloxia, Lua is the manipulatable kind (used by admins and hackers alike),while C++ is the 'Order' to Lua's 'Chaos',C++ gives the paramters,structures of the world of Robloxia...hmm,i can compare it to DNA and RNA, the DNA is C++ while the RNA is Lua. Given their function in cells,DNA is practically trapped in the nucleus ( the core of the universe of Robloxia) while RNA travels through the cell (universe) giving information and instructiona from the DNA (practically the manipulatable kind and information giver,the bridge to allow creation in Robloxia to even be possible)
C# and Objective-C. C# is used by Microsoft whole Objective C is used by Apple (for older models,while Swift,another member of the C-family has been used as a replacement since 2014). Though using these two should be treated with caution (like all languages of the c-family) .Objective-C has a lot of vulnerabilities beacuse itnhas loose null-safety lines (null safety is a programming feature designed to eliminate nullpointerexception,which means that it ensures variables to not hold null unles explcitiy allowed). Has bad pattern-matching and the value types are veeery complex. They inherited the pointer vulnerabilities from C which can lead to memory leaks or crashes. C# has a garbage collection that osnautomatic,which is convinient but it will allow a low frame per second rate , also application speeds plumet due to high level abstractions.
Thats why they arent used as much,they have an jnusual syntax but also their own vulnerabiltiies listed up ahead.Objective-C is practically forgotten by the masses,overshadowed by Swift.
But if used in Robloxia,these two would have only great use in battles (C#) and excellent in creating (Objective-C, though used with caution due to its many vulnerabilities and syntax)
Java, Javascript and Python
Java is programming language while the other two are scripting languages. They are VERY popular and they are moderate/high in terms of learning difficutly,slightly harder than C# and Objective-C. Java is very stable and versatile for backends and used mostly for Android applications.It is veryyy strict with its variables and data types.This language is very secure and scalable,but it takes a lot of code to make even the simplest program. Java is used for enterprise the most (and why its highly valued in today's market)
Javascript is the Master of the Web,modern web browers lean on this language,used for frontend web development and dynamic interfaced and can make hybrid mobile apps. The syntax is the same as in every memebr for the c-family. Though a non-neogtiable for web interfaces ,but due its flexibility is its downfall,its achilles heal, can lead to harder to fix bugs and the code is harder to maintain if the project is large.
Python is designed to be simple and readable to even the most junior programmer. Used in AI, data analysis and machine mearning due to this readability and simplicity.Code is very clean and minimalist, best language for begginers.... Though its aloooot slower in execution compared to any language in this list,mostly due to it being interperted to c++ theeen to machine readable code.
But in Robloxia,if the human ever uses one of these three would be a buffed version of Lua. Java is the best bet here,due to its stability and versatility,though i have a headcanon that it can hurt the user mostly beacuse due to how stable it is and its trying its best to 'correct' what it thinks is 'wrong' (if you know what i mean),its like a fire that clings to the arms and neck ,some parts of the chest,the most.Scalability allows more complex 'spells' and gadgets due to this. The best bet here for practically anything, given its easier to learn than c++ and a fast track to 'deityhood' compared to Lua
Javascript would be the best in terms of interaction . Better than Lua in terms of creation and alot more versatile compared to it. I think they would be the better alternative to objective-c of the reader wants to 'create' things,expiriences... Its a very powerful language to power servers too. It could be used as a powerful source of power in stability for the servers. Though its not the best in security.But its more a pink flame and only clings to the front of the chest(as in frontend,ha-)
Python is alot more powerful than Lua and veeery easy to learn.the fastest way to gain power.Best for security and taking down hackers. Python reminds me of Minos Prime from Ultrakill (que Order playing in the backround).its acts like electricity and the essence is usually around the elbow all the way down to the back hand.It acts like snakes and can speak (why?beacuse when writting in this language is very simple and has alot of english words understandable to its user,so its kind of like a headcannon that the 'essence'/snakes can speak,though very little)
And now the big guns, C++
The language I know best but also the core of the engine as a whole in Robloxia. It has maaaany libraries for data structures. Object-orienzed and compiles directly to machine code very fast. Allows manipulation of its code of storage adresses and hardware directly by the usage of pointers.Its extremely portable (with some adjustments) and canvbe used acroy many OS's. There is alot of documentation of this language,maaany compilers and VERY GOOD for games.
Though it lacks a garbage collection which makes it prone to leaks and crashes if not used correctly. It has a steep learning curve. A fucking struggle to comprehend pointers and refrences. Strict and Cryptic syntax and it demands manual 'checkups' (if i can phrase it like that). And not to mention the error outputs are difficult to understand (WTF DO YOU MEAN EXPECTED '}' WHEN ITS ALREADY THERE??!!) (check that out yourself). Though it has a high risk of security bugs if not well written.
Though,its the best here in terms of use in all categories,but the code in c++ must be VERY precise,even the smallest mistake will throw the whole thing off (talking from expirience,im still technically a beginner,sitll learning this language and its many libraries)
But i imagine that C++ is similar like Lua in Robloxia.It produces alot more esccence and is alot more blue (a royal blue to be precise) and it acts like a gas,similar like Lua (all over the body and sparkly). C++ is less sparkly but it has 'shooting stars',the hair is the most effected here (floaty and looks like tendrils,no matter the gender,that hair WILL GROW IN FUCKING METERS - a headcannon beacuse C++ must be maintained time to time,more so than Lua),it also effects the eyes more than Lua,turning any eye color to the shades of blue and yellow,mostly yellow.It also heavily hangs out around the hands and feet,leaving trails (memory leaks con).
I headcannon that only Lua and C++ (which are what keep Robloxia in balance) can produce those crstalys.Technically still Lua crstals,but the c++ ones would be alot more harder to produce by the body but also i would call them 'Sea Crystals' (HA,SEE THE PUN???),mostly beacuse they lopk like the deep sea,a dark churning blue hue with more stardust compared to Lua Crsytals. (Still,they can be called C Crstalys,but i love my creativity :D)
