After a long time hunting I found my Great G Grandfather’s reward check for helping capture John Wilks Booth Pres. Abraham Lincolns assassin . Lewis Savage & his cousin Abram Snay were of the 5 men from Saranac, Ny. That rode with 25 others on horse tracking down Booth in Garret’s famous barn. They lite the building on fire trying to get him out. They wanted him alive for questioning but for fear of booth shooting Capt Doherty he was shoot through the barn boards. So Lewis was in the 16th Cavalry. He was in many battles but was always fighting John Mosby’s band. Lewis was injured and hardly able to walk when he volunteered to go after Booth.
