Agreed, re: Sandman and there being a ton of value in comics. My emotional attachment, though, is with the Biologic Show. I just love it so fucking much.
I've only read bits and pieces of The Biologic Show, and what I've seen has both creeped me out and intrigued me to read more.
The two other comics I have an emotional attachment to are Batman Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth and 30 Days of Night--specifically, the first trade volume. Both of them are dark with moments of violence, but they also have moments that are at turns genuinely funny or emotionally touching. They're both beautifully written and wonderfully paced. And I just... Yeah. Feels.
Steve Niles, the writer of 30 Days of Night is actually going to be at Texas Comicon and I'm just kind of beside myself with hoping I don't turn into a massively spastic mess of nerves if I get the chance to meet him. /o\ The only way I could even be more nervous is if Ben Templesmith (who is one of my favorite comic book artists and is a good storyteller in his own right) was with him. If I could work with (or for) any two people...
