I’m thankful you were an “almost” Because if I’d allowed you to be the real thing, You would have hurt me much more Than you already have. Even though you were just an almost, You still broke my heart just as much as the real thing would have. You still would have left me for someone better Someone prettier, skinnier, less problematic Just overall better. And even now, The short times we talk, Those memories come rushing back in Like a hurricane after a season of drought. Closing in on a year now, Those memories should stay stored Only in my camera roll Yet somehow have had the power to creep Back into the dark corners of my mind.
