You refused to leave your room for the remainder of the day. Jasmine and Rafa came by to get you to open the door, but you wouldn’t budge. It felt like you couldn’t move no matter how hard you tried. It was an uphill battle you refused to fight. How could your soulmate of all people make you feel this shitty? How could he be so careless?

You sat in the corner of the room, away from the bed where Daveed claimed you. The room wreaked of him and created its own form of torture, but you had no where else to turn. 

Daveed sat on the other side of the door, contemplating knocking the door over so he could hold you close and never let go. All Rafa could do was bring him dinner and wait for his next move. He wouldn’t tell his best friend how bad he messed things up between the two of you. Daveed’s heart was in the right place, but his timing was awful.

“You need a shower”, Jasmine sneered as she grabbed the bowl from the floor

Daveed didn’t respond.

“She can probably smell your stench through the door”

It was enough to catch Daveed’s attention. He knew if you decided to finally come out, he didn’t want you seeing him in this condition. Yes, he was an absolute wreck, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t shower.

“I’ll talk to her, but I can’t promise you anything for being an ass”

He quietly thanked Jasmine as he got up. 

“(Y/N), I’m coming in”

Jasmine stepped in the quiet room. You were sitting on the floor with your knees pressed to your chest. You never looked or felt so small. She sat next to you as you tried to steady your breathing.

“He’s not at the door anymore. I sent him away”

“Good”, you sighed, “I don’t want to see him again”

“Well what happened?”

Jasmine took in your quietness and convinced you to leave the house, away from all the alphas…and Rafa. They were desperate to figure out what happened between the new, happy couple. Jasmine held your hand tight as you distanced yourself from the house and away from your soulmate.

“We ran into Benji yesterday”, you started, “He said that Daveed only marked me to keep him from getting to me. The same day Daveed ran into Benji was the same day Daveed marked me. It doesn’t feel like a coincidence”

“How do you feel?”

“I feel stupid for letting him in”

“You’re not stupid. You opened up to someone you trusted and they made a bad decision…a really bad decision. I don’t think Daveed was trying to be malicious. He was just being--”

“A stupid alpha”

“Well yeah”, she laughed, “We can be really stupid when our mates are involved, but that doesn’t change anything. What do you need?”

You thought the question over. There were so many things you needed in that moment, it was difficult keeping track of them all.

“I need space, some time for me to think things over, I want to punch something, I want someone to hold me, and I want people to stop trying to figure out what happened. We’ll talk about it when we’re ready”

Jasmine pulled you in and held you tight, “I’m sorry”

“It’s not your fault. Not all alphas are stupid”

“I’ll take it”

The air grew tense in a matter of moments. The same familiar stench you were accustomed to filled your nostrils. Jasmine sensed it too and pulled you behind her. You both stopped to talk right where the forest began. There was enough space between you and Daveed.

“Do you think I’m a stupid alpha?”

Jasmine was always used to keeping a calm, collected demeanor, but Benji’s presence always pushed her buttons.

“Soooooooo, how are things with you and your precious alpha? I was only trying to help darling”

You held on to Jasmine’s arm as you took a deep breath. Benji waited with a sickening smirk on his face. He wanted to see how uncomfortable you were now that he attempted to come between you and your soulmate. You were so tired of his constant meddling. You were never going to be his. You would rather die.

Without saying a word, you launched a rock with as much strength you could muster. It didn’t take much, given much you truly hated him. Your quickness surprised all three of you. The rock connected with Benji’s eye, ensuring a black eye in its wake.

Benji screamed as he took a step back, holding his eye and grimacing.

“Nice shot”, Jas smiled as she stepped back, as much as she wanted to knock him out, she wouldn’t risk putting you in danger. Benji was too unpredictable.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?”, he yelled, “I told your family-

Benji was taken aback as he took in your laughter. You had the nerve to laugh at him and it made his blood boil.

“The moment you became more trouble than you were worth, I would take things into my own hands…and here we are”

Benji took a step past the woods and walked onto Daveed’s territory. Jasmine growled as her eyes glowed.

“(Y/N) run”

By the time you turned to run, Daveed jumped in front of you on all fours. The look in your eyes told you to keep running and don’t stop until you made it to the house. Once you reached the door, Oak, Rafa, and the rest of the alphas were already running out the door. Anthony tried to pull you inside, but you couldn’t move until you knew Daveed and your pack were okay.

The entire pack formed a line in front of Benji, daring him to take a step forward. Benji knew he was outnumbered. You didn’t think he would be dumb enough to challenge a pack of alphas and yet he proved you wrong. He charged at Daveed with full force, knocking him to the ground. Your heart stopped in your chest.

Get up. Please get up.

Benji tried to take a bite from his neck while he was down, but Daveed was quicker than you thought. He lunged for Benji’s tail and pulled until he was at the edge of the woods. Benji writhed in pain as the rest of the pack surrounded him, preventing him from making a break for it. Daveed’s teeth sunk deeper into his tail and connected with the bone. With one final pull, Daveed was able to swing Benji by the tail past the edge of the woods with one spine tingling howl. 

Benji limped with his tail between his legs back to where he came from. Daveed was the first to move towards the house. Just like your first night there, he stood on his hind legs to reach the porch. His big brown eyes looked sad as if he didn’t know what to do next. You took a step forward and rubbed the bridge of his nose. You sealed the gentle touch with a kiss. 

Daveed took a step back and by the time he reached the stairs, he was back to his human form. He didn’t care that you didn’t want to speak to him, he just needed to know that you were safe and Benji couldn’t get to you.

“You threw a rock…at his face”

“You almost ripped his tail off”, you smirked

Anthony smiled up at his wife. She cradled his cheek and pulled him in for a kiss.

You threw the pillow you were resting on across the room. It bounced off Rafa’s forehead, earning a laugh from Anthony. Rafa threw the pillow back, missing by a few inches. The alpha smiled at you as you stuck your tongue out at him. 

“Feels like I need to be closer to him, but I don’t think he wants that now”

“He probably thinks you rejected him”, Anthony suggested

The next day started off uneventful. By noon, Jasmine and Rafa went for a walk and Anthony decided to join them. You were alone with your book and thoughts in the living room. The sound of a door opening and careful steps pulled you out of your reverie. Daveed attempted to walk down the steps as slow and quiet as he could. You held the book tight in your hand, watching him out the corner of your eye. 

“Did you even eat breakfast?”, you asked when he reached the ground floor

Daveed’s eyes grew wide now that your attention was on him. 

“I just wanted to get a snack and give you some space. I’ll be out soon”, he responded as he walked into the kitchen

You put the book down and followed him. Both of you were ignoring the force pulling you to each other. You took the soup from the fridge and put it on the stove as Daveed pulled out a bag of chips. He started walking away until he heard your voice. 

“Where do you think you’re going?”

“Told you I wanted to give you space”, he said refusing to turn around

“You don’t have to”, you uttered, “I’m sure Jasmine, Anthony, and Rafa would never forgive me if I let you go hungry”

Daveed turned around with a smirk. 

“Let me? Did you plan on starving me at some point?”

“After last night? Yes”

He looked down, ashamed of the way he behaved the night before. His heart was in the right place, but he knew better than to send you out into the aftermath of a blizzard. 

“I’m sorry for my behavior. I thought I was keeping you safe, but I was wrong”

“Will I be safer here...with you?”

“This is new to both of us. If you want this, we can take our sweet time. Get to know each other. I’m sure there’s plenty that we don’t know about this soulmate thing”

“Your friends have told me plenty”

The warmth wrapped around your body helped you sleep until a loud crash forced you awake. Your body shot up with your heart racing. The spacious room unfamiliar, but decorated with family photos, multiple bookshelves and board games, and a fireplace. You were resting next to the fire, wrapped in several blankets. 

The door was next to the bookshelf. At least you knew you had an exit if things got out of hand. All you remembered was running, then everything went dark. Every time you tried to pull yourself from the floor, you ended up right where you started. 

“It’s okay”, you heard from the kitchen, “I’ll clean it up. Make sure our guest isn’t up yet. I would hate to wake her”

“That’s awfully kind of you...even though she’s been out for ten hours”, a man answered as he walked to the living room, “There’s no way she’s--”

“In a blizzard?”, he challenged

“Because he saved you”

Rafa smiled and walked to the kitchen. When he came back, Anthony pulled the coffee table closer to you and Rafa placed a bowl of soup and water down.

“I know you’re starving”

On queue, your stomach growled. You positioned yourself on the floor and dug in. You couldn’t bring yourself to care about everyone else in the room, all you that mattered was you and that bowl of soup. When you finally looked up from the empty bowl, all eyes were on you.

As Rafa left, you heard a loud growl outside. Jasmine shook her head as she tapped Anthony’s arm.

“He’s back”, Anthony called out, “You can come with us if you want”

Jasmine helped you off the ground and wrapped the blanket tightly around you. She told you what boots to slip on before making sure you were ready for the frigid weather. You stepped out on the snow covered porch listening to Anthony talk about you getting better. When you finally made it outside, you expected to see another human. Instead, you were face to face with a werewolf standing on its hind legs to reach the house. 

Not every family that were descendants from werewolves can shift, which was the case with your kin. Just a family full of controlling alphas and betas. The photos of werewolves did nothing to prepare you for what was in front of you. Daveed tensed on the couch. You were resting in his room upstairs, wrapped in all his blankets and scent. After making sure you were sound asleep, he came down when he heard Jasmine and Rafa come in. 

“I know it’s been fine with just the four of us, but we need more numbers. If he succeeds, how do we keep everyone safe?”, Rafa asked their leader

“You’re right”, Daveed sighs, getting off the couch, ready to hold you in his arms again, “We’ll have to make some moves in the morning. I won’t let him hurt her again”

You walked down the stairs the next morning to the smell of bacon. Anthony and Jasmine danced around each other in the kitchen, singing a song you failed to recognize. Rafa and Daveed sat in the living room going over who they know would fight if they asked. 

You greeted them both, speaking to Rafa and placing a kiss on Daveed’s forehead. You walked by them, ready to pull a book off the shelf when someone knocked on the door. 

“I’ve got it”

Daveed looked through the peephole, and the guest on the other side made him smile. He swung the door open and pulled the man in for a hug. 

“Oak! How’ve you been?”

“Pretty good. The baby is healthy. The pack is stronger than ever. I can’t complain”, Oak beamed, “But I’m here for you”

Daveed stepped aside and let him in. Oak greeted Jasmine, Anthony, and Rafa with giant hugs. Just as he was about to sit on the couch, he noticed you standing in the corner. 

“And who are you?”, Oak smiled as he held his hand out with a welcoming smile

“Y/N. Nice to meet you”, you grinned as you took his hand

Oak looked between you and Daveed, a knowing smirk spreading across his features. Daveed remained close to you when Oak entered the home. He trusted him, but another alpha from a different pack just entered his home. Old habits die hard. 

“That makes sense”, he laughed, “She’s your soulmate”

“How the hell did you know that?”

“I believed in soulmates long before you did, Diggs. I’ve also seen a thing or two after my brother found his”

Daveed took your hand and led you to the couch. In the past few days, you noticed little things about the way he treated you. For one, he always made sure there was space for you wherever he was sitting. Daveed moved over on the couch, giving you enough space to sit next to him. You wrapped your arms around him, leaning into him. 

It didn’t take long to realize Oak was beyond trustworthy. There wasn’t an ounce of malice in his heart. Oak grew tired of Benji’s shit, just like everyone else. His entire pack was ready to join the fight if need be. Most of them came inside from patrolling the area to greet their friends. Anthony pulled you away to meet everyone. It was nice meeting more alphas with good intentions. Daveed watched you from afar, greeting the pack that was mostly alphas. It made his skin crawl, but he knew you were in excellent hands. 

“I’ll do anything I can to keep Y/N safe”, Daveed began when he thought you were out of earshot, “I have to keep my soulmate safe. Y/N’s been through enough, and Benji will stop at nothing to get her back. If he lays one finger on her--”

“I’ll fucking end him”, Jasmine finished 

“I hope it won’t get to that point, but we’ll know what do when the time comes. What do you need from us?”, Oak offered 

Daveed prepared to go out with Oak. His pack was a start, but they still needed more help. 

“I hope I’ll be home soon. I’ll be back before you fall asleep”, he promised as he  kissed your cheek

“It’s okay. Be careful”

“I have to make it back to you, don’t I?”

Daveed pulled you in for a kiss as Rafa walked by. 

“Booooooo. Get a room”

You pulled away and watched Daveed chase him out the door, finally tackling him in the snow. 

He’ll be back, you promised yourself, but it still felt like he took a piece of you with him. When you turned to head to the kitchen, a room full of alphas, save for Anthony, were watching you. 

“They have questions”, Anthony laughed, “But you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to”

You sat on the floor next to the fireplace and let them know it was alright with you. 

“When did you realize Daveed was your soulmate?”

Daveed marched up the stairs, swung his door open, and slammed it shut. When he noticed he had company, he straightened up, but his furrowed brow and frown remained the same.

“Everything went as we planned. We have more numbers than we expected”

You could feel his anxiousness when he stepped in the house. 

“We ran into Benji”

“What happened?”
