Semester At Sea Day 48
Well, first day back at sea and back to classes! And here comes the mountain of work I need to catch up on lol. Semester At Sea classes love assigning papers and essays to everyone. All pretty much due around the same time too. Although I am not procrastinating till the night before, I was pretty much typing an essay in every class so I would have less work later. Today in my poverty class, my teacher returned so it was back to lectures in this class! She was Turkish so before we left Turkey, she gave us a bunch of ideas of stuff to do. We were pretty much reflecting on what we all did there. Her son is healthy now so thats good. Since this is my first class, I always get hungry in it and have to wait for lunch. After my friend and I went to lunch, and the pasta they had today was pretty good. After lunch I had global studies, and we have a midterm in this class tomorrow! So today we had a review for the midterm and our professor was telling us what to study and we had time to ask him questions. In my management class we were discussing what were the pros and cons for companies expanding internationally. In my last water sanitation class we reviewed about Turkey and how water was used there. After class I went up to the Wellness Center to go get a haircut. My hair was starting to look like an afro so I decided to buzz cut it off. I went to dinner after and for dessert they had fruit pie! I was pretty excited because I am avid lover of pie and theyve only had it once or twice before. After dinner I went back to my friends room to watch tv a little bit. After, we went to TEDxSemestertAtSea! This was really good. The first speaker was the theater teacher Drew Khan, who spoke about Anne Frank and story telling. The second speaker was my friend Lyndsi Sherman who also goes to my school and she talked about smiling and the law of attraction. The second speaker John Paul talked about financial literacy and how students should be taking business classes starting from elementary school to prevent future recessions. We had some piano players that played between speakers. Our last speaker talked about entrepreneurship for a better world. He created a business that helped build houses for the aftermath crisis of the Tsunami. We also saw a video of a lady who presented in TEDx Dubai who talked about the extinction of languages and how English is taking over the world. We ended with a video of a guy who recorded street performers from all over the world performing Stand By Me. It was really cool. TEDxSemesterAtSea was a success! Lara Stein, TED director of licensing, got up and spoke and thanked us for having her here. She will be leaving us when we get to Morocco to go back to work. After, my friend and I went to an info session on becoming a Global Ambassador for Semester At Sea. Global Ambassadors are alumni students who go around and inform other interested students about Semester At Sea. I think I might apply for it. It sounds pretty fun and interesting. After, everyone who helped out with TEDxSemesterAtSea went up to the pool deck and had a little drum circle celebration. It was pretty cool I wore turtle shell drums around my neck while one of the kids was banging on it with a stick lol. The music teacher was there to help us be in sync and give us rhythm. After I went back to my friends room to study for our global studies midterm for the rest of the night. Talk about a busy first day back at sea! 4 more days till Morocco!
