it is an incredibly alienating thing to see journalists too ask matt over and over: does daemon love rhaenyra? or surprise at moments in the first episodes of s3 where he is apparently tender and consoling. it’s very soothing to have matt’s answer be what mine has always been which is: yes, of course he does, immensely. it’s just a profound instance of the comforting veil of the illusion we all live in the same world being sort of ripped away, meeting this obviously profound surprise and disbelief that a frequently violent and frightening person who has hurt and frightened you can also love you, care for you, be sweet with you.
