It’s actually fucking stupid that obesity/overweight are lumped with bigotry & discrimination of sexuality, race, &/or gender…
Those things are completely different bc the “body positivity movement” is abt accepting all physical appearances & health. Regardless of what health sources & clinics say out of genuine concern for the obese & anorexic crowds.
Imagine if society did wind up catering to the obese crowd. So much money will be spent on changing public seat sizes, not just clothing size expansion! Lots of materials wasted at the potential billions bc they refuse to change their diet & appearance!
There’s also a reason why amusement park rights have height/weight limits.
One time I’ve listened to a story where a 300+ lb teen whined bc he got rejected for being too heavy for the ride. So the employees let him on w/out the upper safety restraints(?), you can guess what happened. The Orlando FreeFall ride was shutdown & a memorial was held for the kid. The mother was distraught that the employees didn’t try harder to dissuade her son from the ride. Otherwise he’d still be alive to this day.
And another one was where a 200 lb man also fell to his death in a zip lining ride… he’s also above the weight limit. I dunno if the staff refused to let him on but relented or let him there…
Bigotry/discrimination of the aforementioned 3 are taught & even influenced by family, peers, etc. Most modern day ppl should know this.
That anon from late April, call me the Anti-Haes Anon.
This I do have to agree with, because from my understanding of the body positivity movement was geared towards different body types/disabilities that you were either born with/ended up sustaining due to circumstances foreseen/unforeseen. Then and this is going to make me sound like an ass but it is truth...all the fat/obese people took the movement to a whole different direction where the focus was pretty much people who are just fat/obese as if it was a disability in itself and not something that could be changed. Which realistically you can indeed change your weight, and yes sometimes it can be hard due to chronic illnesses. But most times the failures that they have had in the past is usually in the fad diet range versus actually changing their lifestyle or eating habits.
I feel like adaptive clothing lines would be more further along than they are now, and possibly cheaper than they are. Because I don't remember what documentary I was watching, but it had to do with making adaptive clothing for people who were/have in wheelchairs, scoliosis, limb length discrepancy, amputee designs, etc. During the hype of body positivity movement this was brought up more often and it sucks that it is not getting more attention.
But as for the ride thing to me that is so fucking wild! They made those rules for everyone's safety for a reason, and yet they got their way and literally paid the price for not just accepting no... Like I am a obese and I know that not everything will withhold my weight, so why would you think that something that has weight limit depending on the number of people who goes on rides? Hell even vehicles has curb weight of how much it can haul on the fluids and passengers. Which is why some vehicles can go out quicker when you have very heavy passengers & driver...just due to what the greater vehicle weight can hold. Not to mention gas guzzling when everyone is heavy, because it is literally like you are hauling cargo around constantly. (you can see this info on the sticker that has the vin/tire psi info on the inside of driver doorway)
Thanks for the inbox! You gave me some interesting info, and do hope that people who are told no when it comes to safety actually listens! 😅 That is still wild though especially when the staff just gives in...like wooow fuck safety limitations I guess! Good day to ya and hope that allergies don't get ya since we are in May now.
*will be putting this in the fatphobia and other fat movement's tags
