i appreciate Andrzej Sapkowski (author of The Witcher) for not bothering with a map, letting fans try and put one together, and then giving them a thumbs up and saying it's "more or less correct", before his editors tried putting one together which wasn't finalised until the third book, and then his translators had a go at it which was stated to be more faithful, but none of these maps were fully correct as the author kept changing details, and then CDPR ignored this more faithful map and used the older maps plus input from Sapkowski himself to make more maps, which proceeded to put geographical locations and an entire fucking river in the wrong spots, issuing corrections later, but these maps were also still used and updated depending on the edition of the book, so each language the books were published in had a different frankensteined map, then fandom got involved to help put together better maps, an updated French version I think was used in the cookbook(?), AND THEN at least three more maps were made for the TV series but none of those match even within the production itself, leaving fans with about a thousand maps and not a single one of them actually fucking canon as apparently Sapkowski has his own map he made based off the translators map but decided to never publish as the details are ever changing
