Papas + Copia: Death of S/O
Anonymous said:
First of all, your Copia is just perfect and I love it so much! You write everyone else so well, too, I am just biased to Copia lol. I hate to go to a dark place when you just opened asks, but how would the Papas/Copia react if their s/o died (natural causes, disease, sudden accident. Dealer's choice really)
First of all: Thank you very much!! I love Copia too.
Second of all...you come into my house...and you bring these FEELS.....
I like the way you think.
For maximum angst, let’s say sudden and unexpected accident. Get ready to cry!
TW: Death
Papa Nihil:
Deeply, deeply saddened by the news of your passing.
He’s an old man. His lovers have died before. It’s always painful.
...but you were something else...
Imperator is the one to console him. “They’re home now, Papa. No more pain or suffering.” He bows his head further, closing his eyes. She would pause, before sighing. “...I miss them, too.”
Both he and Imperator would mourn you. Between the three of you, it really felt like you were a member of the family.
But one thing is comforting to him.
Sometime soon, he’ll pass from this world, too.
Then you can be together again.
Papa I:
Like Nihil, he’s used to people dying before him. But losing you is particularly hard.
Misses you terribly.
Because your souls are bound, though...in a way, you’re not gone.
He can still feel you, everywhere he goes. So it’s not as hard on him.
“I will join you someday, beloved.”
Papa II:
Anger.
That’s what he feels when he learns of your death. Pure, unbridled rage. Of all the trash on this earth to be taken by the Reaper, why you? What had you done to deserve this??
If you died because of someone else, he will not rest until they’re dead. He’ll kill them himself, strangling the life out of them, out of the one who took his caro away from him.
And yet he finds it does nothing. He’s angry, but he has no-one to blame, nothing to comfort him. He would break things, hurt people, tears rolling down his cheeks as he snarls in fury.
Arranges your funeral. During the proceedings, he’s completely stone-faced, reading your rites and talking about all the contributions you made to the church.
He’s the last one to leave. Looks upon your body one last time, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead when no one else can see, before letting the ghouls bury you.
He removed everything that could remind him of you and had it buried with you. His gifts, your things, anything you gave him. That, or burned them.
Yours is a grief he’ll carry forever. But he would try to shut it out and pretend he doesn’t care. Put it away. Don’t address it.
And maybe, one day, it will stop hurting so much.
Papa III:
Is in utter shock at first when he gets the news. His tesoro? Dead?
Thinks back to the last time he saw you. Thinks about all the different things he could have done to save your life. He could have stopped you from going out that morning. He could have gone with you. He could have done something.
But he didn’t. And now you’re gone, forever.
He would be a sobbing wreck without you, unable to get anything done or even function properly for weeks. His brothers and father have to step in to help him, which they do readily.
None of them chide him for the massive amount of emotion. They know how much he cared for you, and just how rare the love you shared was.
He would look into ways of bringing you back. He’s not even sure he can live without you.
Papa II is the one to bring him back to earth. “They would not want to see you this way.”
“I miss them,” III sobs, clinging to his brother. “I...I want them back, fratellone...I want them back....!”
“I know. I know.” II sighs, rubbing III’s back the way he did when III was a child and needed comfort after a nightmare. “But now you must be strong for them. It hurts. ...but you will see them again someday.”
Eventually, he pulls himself together. He’s young--not used to losing lovers yet. It will be a long time before he goes back to his old, cheerful self again.
It will be a long time before he gets over the pain of losing you.
Cardinal Copia:
In a cruel twist of fate, the one who should have been the most prepared to lose you is the least.
He will outlive everyone he knows. Until Year Zero, he will be on this earth. He knew he was going to lose you someday.
But he never thought it would come so soon.
He would curse God, curse him for taking away the light of his life, curse him for all the pain he’s caused. Screaming at the heavens, before collapsing to his knees and weeping.
Was this how it had felt the last time he’d loved? Did it hurt this badly to lose them? Did it really??
It seems like a mere scratch compared to the gaping, bleeding hole that has been torn into him by your death.
He would never move on.
He immerses himself in work, much as he did before. But now he has even less contact with people, refusing to let them in like he let you in. His rats are enough for him.
Nihil takes pity on him, and gives him the anniversary of your death off, every year.
And every year, Copia dresses nicely, packs a basket full of food, and visits your grave. He spends the day on a picnic blanket, talking lightly about everything that’s happened in the past year. He always brings you flowers--remember these? Your favorite, yes?
He tries to smile through it. Tries to pretend it’s all okay, and that you’re just being quiet today.
But he can never manage it. The tears always come and the pain always fills his chest and he always bows his head before your grave, whispering.
“I miss you. I miss you, topolino. And I don’t know how I’m going to carry on until the Judgement Day without you.”
