Marvel Zombies #4 (2025)
Writers: Ethan S. Parker & Griffin Sheridan Art and Colorist: Jan Bazaldua and Erich Arciniegn
Marvel Zombies has had its up and downs since Robert Kirkman debuted the original series. The latest mini-series, published under the 'red band' label is a pretty good clean slate take, despite a few hiccups.
For context's sake, Issue #1 started with the FF coming back from space, as intelligent undead. Issues #2 & #3 jump to major events (Secret Wars, Infinity Gauntlet) and now issue #4 has brought us up to Civil War. Remember Civil War? It's back, in zombie form!
Honestly, the actual passage of time is a little fuzzy and the continuity of certain characters popping in and out doesn't make sense if you think about it too much, but the writers are clearly having fun. And issue #4 leans on the 4th wall over the vagueness of the timeline via a Deadpool cameo.
Cards on the table, I don't love the art. The details are muddy and the whole thing feels like we're seeing broad sketches being colored in, most of the time.
Spider-Man is sort of our POV character and even though he got his classic symbiote suit last issue, it almost seems like someone forgot that and it's being treated as a standard costume. We'll see if it gets addressed in the last issue.
There's only one more issue to go but my overall take is if you haven't picked this up yet, wait for a TPB. It's not *bad* but I think it'll read much better in trade form.
