El 10 de julio de 1996, se anuncia el WebTV, originalmente conocida como WebTV Networks y más tarde como MSN TV.
Fue un sistema que permitía a los usuarios acceder a internet y sus servicios a través de un televisor, utilizando un decodificador y un control remoto que funcionaba como mouse y teclado inalámbrico.
Este sistema, adquirido por Microsoft en 1997, ofrecía una forma más sencilla y económica de conectarse a la web, especialmente para aquellos que no tenían computadoras o preferían la experiencia televisiva.
Aunque MSN TV fue descontinuado en 2013, su legado reside en su papel pionero al llevar la navegación web a los hogares a través del televisor.
