An event that defines your character's past

Melpomene lost her mum at the age of 6, then was taken in unwillingly by her father and his wife with their three daughters. After her father died his own father come live with them to make sure the family was secure. The family had to begrudgingly let Melpomene be a part of them, but her grandfather adored her. He's the reason she became a bard. When he died when she was 12 years old, he gave her his cloak and lute. Even though she was forced to work in her own home as a servant, she always held onto the memory of her grandfather and her mother and all they'd done for her.

2. How your character sees themselves

Despite the justifiable hard life she lives, she doesn't feel that she has it bad. After all, there's always someone who had it worse. And she constantly feels she's had it the easiest compared to her new fellow companions. Therefore, she tends to hide her past from everyone until they convince her to open up.

Somewhere in the universe, somewhere someone's got it worse Wish that made it easier, wish I didn't feel the hurt The world's smallest violin really needs an audience So if I do not find somebody soon, I'll blow up into smithereens And spew my tiny symphony

3. How others view them

Even though she's shy and slowly trying to open up more with her music, she doesn't feel she's anything that anyone would want to listen to. After years of degrading comments, it's hard to reverse that line of thinking. Thank goodness she's got friends who will listen to her music :)

4. Their closest relationship (platonic or romantic)

Before Gale showed her what she truly deserves in life, Melpomene was stuck in an abusive household. Forced to be a servant for her stepmother and half sisters who took everything from her. She's never been more glad she attempted to run away and be taken by the nautiloid since it gave her Gale.

5. A major fight scene

No words needed. This is a kickass song and really makes you wanna have a badass fight.

I imagine this is what would be considered Gale and Melpomene's first wedding dance song. And seeing as Gale was her happily ever after, this would fit.
