Girl, you have been and always been my Sweetest Addiction. That one thing that I could never live without.
Another throwback as monstercat’s regular schedule will return next week.
We Ghosts-Decade
We Ghosts are an Anglo-Swedish duo fronted by Scandanavian songstress J.J. Woodall and English instrumentalist John Christopher, since their formation they've performed hundreds of gigs across Sweden and Europe whilst honing their unique combination of pop, jazz, blues and folk (forming something they like to call Blue Wave/Acoustica??)
Previous recordings by the duo have not only found critical acclaim and airplay (again mainly Sweden) but have also found their way on various soundtracks.
The album opens with Broken Sky, a somewhat off-kilter take on the modern pop genre that takes in both acoustic and electronic instrumentation and percussion, whilst J.J unleashes a near gothic like wail, it's inventive, yet seems to lack a definite hook, far better is the second track, Out Tonight, which is a bright and breezy jazzy acoustic affair that sees the duo duetting wonderfully, working in complete harmony throughout.
Death Or Glory and Home Is Where The Heart Is are both worth the price of admission, instantly likable bluesy numbers, where Woodall get's to show off her impressive vocal range, with Christopher complimenting with a tasteful, short and sweet solo on the former whilst J.J delivers a stunning acapella introduction on the latter. Too Late To Learn is a rootsy affair with John taking lead vocal duties over a delicate strummed and picked guitar whilst J.J joins in for the infectious vocal hook chorus on the first.
There a few missteps on the ten track affair, as well as the aforementioned opener number, the two and a half minute title track never really gets going, it's subtle and pretty, but seems to lack any real hook, but on the whole the album is a decent affair, spanning a wide spectrum of influences whilst still retaining the band's own identity.
