some of my thoughts after today’s show:
- the deadness in her voice as she was reading out the ad like she was already sick of their bullshit, the hysteria while reading the magazine, the devastating reapplying of the jacket signifying draag’s aversion to their puppets having agency then playing teenagers (a song that touches on themes of forced conformity)
- also has anyone ever wondered if the dummy was like a metaphor for how the black parade are just puppets of draag? bc you know how usually people use those kinds of dummies for ventriloquism, the notes = words quite literally being put in their mouths
- on the subject of keposhka, language has historically been used as a tool for censorship but many revolutionaries have bypassed censorship by utilizing the language of the oppressed and cloaking it in metaphor, jose rizal’s writings being a good example
In my short 22 years of living, there is one thing I've learned, and that is that people who claim to be so "nice" and "a good guy" and "reserved" and "caring about everyone" aren't actually nice, or "caring about everyone", as they pretend to be. Cause if you have to repeat over and over again that you are all about "caring about everyone" despite how cruel and ugly the world is, there's something stirring deep under the surface. Nobody is so nice to everyone, and everyone has multitudes. Everyone has moods, points where they snap. Nobody I've met in real life is all "nice". It's not realistic, even from an OC point of view. Like Obito is def not a happy go lucky guy, he's conniving and manipulating the narrative 24/7. He's moody and "walk on glass" at times. Tobi isn't his "nice" side he's still Obito*. Ig I mean I trust people who are upfront with who they are, and don't have this pretend niceness going on. I get how to be myself with them. I'm not nice all the time and I don't use "nice" as a personality point. Because at the end of the day we're all hypocrites. We're all egocentric, and we all have a side that chooses to self preserve over caring endlessly over others. I'm not a nice person when I'm tired, when I'm hungry, when I'm feeling neglected, or hurt. Sometimes I'm not nice for no reason I'm mean and cranky and meaningless. Sometimes I want to be like Obito, hateful, greedy, maddening. I snap out of it, but it's there, this anger, jealousy, pride. Possessiveness. Feeling not good enough. Feeling less than others. We ALL have these conflicting sides to us. Wounded egos, and it feels good to write these characters that are larger than life and who get away with everything they do. Writing Obito feels VERY good sometimes because he's so traumatized you can slip into his cracks and fill it in with anger rage vengeance. It's why Naruto sometimes!! Where's the orphaned kid who acted out to get attention? Naruto started out as little snotnosed punk do you guys remember that!! Where's the kid the village shunned and no one wanted to be friends with? Where's the kid who grew up alone, hating Sasuke for being no. 1 in his class and adored, while he had no one on his team rooting for him? It's like Sasuke carries that burden for both of them, because he gets so much flak for being "unhappy".
We all have people we love and look up to, and people we look down on. We all look at random strangers we don't know and think "I hate that person they're this and this and this I can't stand them". We all have limits.
Nice is flat. Nice gives nothing to work with. Kushina is a realistic character because she doesn't hide her contempt, her conceit, her obvious temperament with/for Obito, love her or hate her. Danzo is a realistic character because he is out out there for himself and not even trying to hide it. Even Minato has more convincing traits to being Naruto's dad, the nicest kid. Kakashi, even Gai are credible because they aren't out there to be God's gift to ninja-kind. Kkashi acknowledges the prissy little stuck up kid he used to be (affectionate). Hell I bet Itachi isn't "nice" as we think he is, cause look at the guy, he has every right to be lash out brimming with wrath.
It's not fair to our pain to not give it meaning. That's a whole rant for another day. Be nice kids. But not too nice. Be kind. But not overbearingly kind. And whatever else, don't be like Obito. ;)
im thinking about making a byler edit with say don't go of taylor swift, what do you think?
might I tease a JP fic I am cooking up with over 10k words at this point lol
here's the summary : James Potter feels like his whole world had crumbled apart, terminal Dragon Pox was the diagnosis. It was already too much he has to deal with his parents being sick but then, they ask him to assure them that when they leave, he wouldn't be alone. And you, you with your piling debt and threatening letters from Gringotts can only fall into despair, when the two grieving paths cross - and a deal is struck. He gets a wife, and you clear your tab.
