From there, I ended up meeting with an old acquaintance -a lawyer named Godric- who helped my family, Amber and I weave a convincing masquerade over the whole incident. Our involvement in the NEO-Flare crisis was covered up, Amber’s medical records were edited so that she had spent the last 8 years in a coma, not dead. Dante co-operated with the courts and provided a paper trail, leading to the arrests and incrimination of most of NEO-Flare’s top dogs. He still got 2 years jail and mandatory psychological evaluation, but he’s in a better mental place now.

But what you really want to know is what happened to Sylvia. Well, Morgana and I kept her existence a secret from everyone except for Godric. He managed to get us in contact with Sandra here, who successfully removed the metal puncture and saved her life. She’s also a pioneer in Pokémon-human cross-biology, which is useful for Amber’s unique condition.

She didn’t get the chance to react. She was lucky it was a kiss and not a stab.

Despite herself and all her flirting, Mallorie froze, barely maintaining a grip on her own blade. This was Maria. Maria was kissing her, completely of her own accord. The privateer’s lips were moving against her own chapped ones, and they were so close that she could stroke Maria’s hair-not that she dared. As much as she wanted this, something held her back from returning the act.

Her eyes kept glancing to the door. Any minute now, any member of Maria’s crew could come barging in, fully intent on helping the woman subdue Mallorie (again).

How would they react to their brave and noble captain kissing a pirate?

She was stuck, not wanting to pull away even enough to voice her concern, but too fearful to dare deepen it. But what was Maria going to think if she didn’t do something? Would she think Mallorie was lying about her feelings? Seducing Maria for manipulative purposes? A thought danced across her mind, and she didn’t hesitate to act on it.

One arm (with her sword still in hand) wrapped around Maria’s waist to pull her closer, while her free hand moved to cradle the woman’s head as she returned the kiss finally. But it wasn’t soft and adoring like she wanted; it was hungry, aggressive, bruising, only broken for heavy pants before claiming Maria’s lips again. And although she knew better, her own lips began to move downwards, to kiss and nip at what little skin she could get to of Maria’s neck.

If anyone came it, they would never suspect Maria had been the one to initiate the kiss. Rather, they would think Mallorie forced the kiss on her, shameless and despicable as she was. It wouldn’t destroy Maria’s image.

Mallorie offered a half-heart chuckle, but her smile didn’t leave her face. Very casually, almost as if she wasn’t in shackles and they weren’t in this situation, she leaned against the table behind her.

“That’s where you’re wrong. Even I’ve drawn a line in the sand, and the tide can’t wash it away. There are some treasures I refuse to loot.”

As much as she teased, she wasn’t about to force her affections on Maria. She was too noble and virtuous a woman, and treating the Pirate Queen as anything other than an enemy would absolutely destroy her reputation. So instead, she brushed the idea aside, choosing to address their current state.
