The Fine Line
Intimacy, touch, akwardness- No, not talking about S-E-X, we’re talking about waxing! Baring all to a Waxpert, especially for the first time can be intense. For us though it’s on a whole different level. Helping you, the client, be more comfortable with waxing and skincare is always the goal. However the more noble parts of the job have to do with some essential life skills. Communication is may be the hardest since it takes time, like any “relationship”, to build a strong understanding. Waxpert’s bubbly personalities go a long way in creating a connection right away but that can backfire too. Touchy-feely stuff can get messy and maintaining professionalism is key to avoiding unfortunate situations. Like farts. They happen. We are experienced in anal bleach so we know about farts enough said. More unfortunate is the creepy unease of a client trying to get “services” we DO NOT offer. Professional waxing does not include a “girlfriend experience” of any kind. But a Waxpert never loses their cool and a firm backbone is usually all that’s required to put things back on the right track and get our job done. Navigating the course to bare, beautiful skin the healthiest way possible comes with dirty gloves sometimes but no better captain than a Waxpert!
Seasons Change
The flow of our business is interesting to contemplate. The strict regulars, the clients that come and go and all the tourists make things pretty lively. Waxperts do so many different services beyond hair removal like facials and body treatments, plus the more "outside the box" offerings like tooth bling and anal bleach it NEVER gets monotonous. But then yesterday 3 clients told us we were playing the exact same movie that we were at their last appointment so I guess even our crazy job can get a little predictable! Of course the keys to our speed and wax technique depend on almost robot like execution, consistancy and precision. Thank goodness we have our over the top personalities or we wouldn't be the rockstars that we are ;)
And then there's THAT question...
"How did you end up doing this?" I get asked this question the most, whether I'm between some butt cheeks, rubbing a face or applying custom glitter tattoos everyone is curious as to how one becomes a skin therapist (my fancy title is Waxpert now). My personal path began during childhood as a spunky youth obsessed with making $$$, I sold door to door, set up stands on the weekends and tried anything resonable to add to my bank account. Definately gave me experience that is useful today when talking about anal bleach to strangers. Once I was old enough to officially work I did oddball things still like assisting a nudist business owner, and radio DJing while paying my bills waitressing and in retail. I have probably worked at over a hundred places no joke! The main theme is that I love working with people and nothing fazes me so of course body waxing fits like a glove. No I didn't grow up dreaming of hair removal and far from hating body hair like most of my clients (to each her/his own I say!) I'm just really passionate about skin! I've realized when you have a natural intuition for something it's a good idea to make that your career focus. Ultimately the answer is "I was meant to be a Waxpert!" and I'm happy with that everyday.
