Personal Life: Over the course of a typical weekend, I timed and calculated my water use at my apartment each day. Just with the toilet, shower, and sink, I ended up using 321.9 gallons of water in just two days. I average that to about 160.95 gallons a day. This calculator showed that I am below the average daily water use in the US. At my apartment, unlike the power bill, the water bill is covered by a flat rate, so I rarely pay attention to my water use. There are approximately 30,000 students at my university and if each of them used the amount of water that I did, then we would use almost 5 million gallons a day. This does not include the embedded of virtual water that I also use every day. For what it’s Earth, 3% of Earth’s water is fresh and less than 0.5% of Earth’s water is drinkable. This site shows personalized ways to minimize one’s water use.
